The Reading Specialist will provide targeted support to our scholars in grades K-5th, and will bring a passion for the mission of HCZ Promise Academy: to get all our scholars to and through college. What you will bring
  • Bacehlor's degree required
  • Valid New York State Teaching Certification in Reading or Literacy required
  • 2 - 5 years teaching experience in an urban school setting preferred

Incoming teacher salaries are determined based on their number of years of experience as a lead teacher, level of education (bachelor's, or master's degree), and certification.Our exceptional benefits include:

In addition, we provide our educators with the resources they need to be successful. You will receive a personal laptop, access to Smartboards and tablets; bi-weekly professional development; and the support of a team of academic coaches, deans, guidance counselors, and social workers who are committed to ensuring the success of all our scholars.What you will do
  • Teach targeted literacy interventions to individual students and small groups of students using research-based strategies and resources
  • Set student goals and instructional outcomes, based on specific student assessments in reading
  • Review student achievement and assist with placing students in appropriate reading and writing intervention and support services
  • Support in conducting reading assessments
  • Work with classroom teachers and school administration to facilitate the coordination of the reading program with the total curriculum
  • Assist teachers with the collection and analysis of data
  • Follow the school's policies and procedures for student conduct and discipline
  • Develop clear evaluation criteria and distribute to students prior to assignments
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues
  • Share responsibility for grade level and school-wide activities
  • Other Considerations - Will be expected to provide supplemental instruction to scholars needing to meet academic proficiency during extending learning opportunities (Academic Hour/Saturday Academy).
