The dispatcher is an essential and crucial part of the law enforcement team. Dispatchers act in partnership with police officers working the road and supply critical information and crucial services for their day to day operation. Preliminary investigations, interpretations of complex computer printouts, coordinating the deployment of emergency personnel and equipment during any crisis situation and routine assignments. A working knowledge of interrogation techniques, CPR and Basic First Aid is required for this position. This position will perform functions in a bias free manner.

The Michigan State Police (MSP) is a full-service policing agency with statewide jurisdiction, providing over 60 different services either directly to Michigan residents or in support of other law enforcement agencies. The MSP personnel most visible to the public are the uniform troopers whose primary responsibilities include traffic enforcement, crime prevention and investigation, and community engagement and service.

Emergency Dispatcher 7
No specific type or amount of experience is required.
Emergency Dispatcher E8
One year of experience equivalent to an Emergency Dispatcher 7.
Special Requirements
Licenses, and Certifications Positions at the Department of State Police may be required to possess CPR certification.
Candidates for positions at the Department of State Police are required to pass the agency administered examination that tests the applicants' computer and other dispatching-related skills.
Positions at the Department of State Police may be required to possess CPR certification.
Candidates without documented previous emergency dispatch experience applying for positions at the Department of State Police are required to pass the agency-administered examination that tests the applicants' computer and other dispatching-related skills.
This position requires passing a pre-employment screening, including passing a criminal history background check and a fingerprint check by the Michigan State Police.

Applicants will be selected for interviews based on the following screening criteria:
* Scoring on pre-employment basic aptitude test (if required)
* Demonstrated knowledge of Emergency Dispatch Center operations
* Demonstrated knowledge of communication and computerized equipment required to operate an emergency communications system, including the MPSCS 800 MHz system
* Experience in communicating effectively with law enforcement personnel and external agencies
* Experience in public safety and emergency service operations
* Writing ability as demonstrated through resume and accompanying documentation
* Education and training relevant to the position
