This position will serve as the Energy and Climate Equity Manager for Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Nassau County and will work under the direction and supervision of the Natural Resource Team Leader. This position will support the Community Energy Program in satisfying the goals for equitable engagement across the Long Island region, including Nassau County, Suffolk County, and the Rockaway Peninsula, in the areas of energy and climate.

The Community Energy Program seeks to serve members of disadvantaged communities with education and support for reducing home energy use and transitioning. This position will work to inform residents, multifamily business owners, and small businesses, with an emphasis in low-to-moderate income and priority communities, of the options for adopting clean energy strategies in their homes and businesses. This position will be responsible for providing direction and coordination of the Community Energy Navigator program, managing 12 20 independent contractors engaged in outreach efforts across the region.

Work includes establishing and maintaining relationships and working with team members, community partners and local stakeholders to lend energy efficiency and clean energy programs to more holistically address energy and climate inequities. This program will deliver information and provide education in a wide variety of settings, including, but not limited to: providing educational tables/booths at community events; presenting before large audiences; making one-on-one phone calls; helping troubleshoot obstacles to adopting clean energy strategies; coordinating with local energy contractors in providing accurate information on the programs, etc.

The Energy and Climate Equity Manager will work with team members, community groups, supervisor, and local natural resources and community energy staff members to coordinate and implement engaging educational programs, including providing training, engaging or coordinating the work of team members, volunteers and interns in program delivery. This position will also serve as a subject matter resource and carry out administrative tasks that support the educational program and fulfill funding requirements.

Required Qualifications:

+ Bachelors Degree.

+ Experience relevant to the role of the position.

+ Valid Drivers License and the ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.

+ Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.

+ Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple priorities according to those set with the team and immediate supervisor.

+ An earnest desire to empower households and communities to create change and a matching patience to move at the speed of trust.

Preferred Qualifications:

+ Demonstrated program implementation and evaluation experience.

+ Experience establishing and working with community stakeholders, especially those with limited income and living in disadvantaged communities.

+ Demonstrated ability to research, plan, teach and evaluate informal educational programs through a variety of delivery methods to reach individuals and groups of diverse ages and backgrounds.

+ Demonstrated ability to function as a team leader working with volunteers and staff.

+ Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively through oral, written and visual means.

+ Demonstrated ability to effectively utilize office software and technology for educational outreach, management, and communication purposes.

+ Bilingual, fluent in English and Spanish.

Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

Program Responsibilities:

Program Development - 5%

+ Apply Energy and Climate Equity subject matter knowledge to provide input in the development of educational and outreach strategies for all assigned programs.

+ Influence the creation of program materials to address the needs of participants within the Community Energy Program.

+ Assist in the development of training resources to support the Community Navigator Program in the areas of community engagement and energy literacy.

+ Support the research, identification and selection of existing resources for the Community Energy program.

Program Delivery - 25%

+ Apply subject matter knowledge to create innovative lesson plans in all assigned areas of programming responsibility.

+ Teach innovative, developmentally appropriate Clean Energy Education programming with discretion in all areas of assigned programming responsibility, in accordance with the established Plan of Work.

+ Effectively utilize a variety of delivery methods including workshops, public events, articles, web pages and social media to deliver programs.

+ Work to foster acceptance of the program, methods, and policies while addressing community and individual needs and considering diverse audiences.

+ Represent the Community Energy Team to the public and community leaders in a professional manner as part of program delivery.

+ Assist in maintaining linkages with Cornell and other SUNY institutions as part of program delivery.

+ Engage volunteers and interns in program delivery using established materials.

+ Serve as subject matter resource and respond to questions about energy efficiency.

+ Serve as a team member and cooperate with the entire Association and Community Energy Team to achieve Association program delivery goals.

Program Evaluation - 5%

+ Implement program evaluation as designed.

+ Interact with program participants to obtain evaluation data, to include: evaluating effectiveness of classes and instructors within program areas for all programs offered.

+ Analyze program data, and based on that analysis, assist in making improvements in programming.

+ Based on program parameters, interpret evaluation data to constituents as appropriate.

Administrative Responsibilities:

Direction - 25%

+ Plan the delivery and structure of delivery for educational program goals with discretion via various methods for all assigned programs.

+ Plan fund development activities as appropriate and be an active participant on the grant writing team as necessary for the development of grant applications to secure funding for ongoing/expanded programming efforts.

+ With discretion, plan effective strategic marketing and mass media efforts in the promotion of assigned programs, public affairs, events and functions.

+ Direct/organize community focus groups and/or advisory committees to support programming initiatives.

+ Foster effective professional relationships with other agencies, organizations and businesses that promote effective communication and facilitate continued programming efforts.

Management - 30%

+ Provide guidance for the assigned educational programs and program activities and ensure they conform to the Associations Plan of Work.

+ Solve problems and resolve conflicts that arise in the assigned programs utilizing appropriate policies and procedures, as needed.

+ Allocate program resources to accomplish Association program objectives within the assigned programs.

+ Monitor assigned programs income/expenses to ensure spending is within the program budget constraints.

+ Recruit and support interns and volunteers involved with program outreach and delivery including matching tasks to the individuals, providing informal feedback, problem-solving and regular communication, per established policies and procedures.

+ Using priorities set by the Community Energy team and supervisor, direct the work of interns and volunteers.

+ Identify and recommend program needs (i.e. program supplies and materials) to the Program Supervisor and natural resources and community energy staff as identified.

+ Provide management (including recruitment and selection) and supervision (including guidance and performance feedback) to designated subcontractors in accordance with established policies, procedures, and protocol, and provide regular staffing updates to the Supervisor and/or Executive Director as required.

Coordination/Operation - 5%

+ Obtain evaluation data and program needs assessments from program participants based on existing evaluation framework and guidelines.

+ Provide complex administrative support to prepare materials for report submission to meet funding requirements.

+ Coordinate projects and ongoing outreach efforts in accordance with the established Plan of Work.

+ Coordinate effective marketing strategies in the promotion of programming efforts to include, but not limited to: print media, news media, social media, and multi-media efforts.

+ Collect individual and Community Energy Team budgetary information as needed and relay to supervisor for review.

+ Gather individual and Community Energy Team information for grant/contract proposals as needed.

+ Support the administrative needs of writing grant/contract proposals as requested to ensure continued funding.

+ Train interns and volunteers as needed.

+ Effectively maintain existing professional relationships with other agencies, organizations and businesses that promote effective communication and facilitate continued programming efforts.

Professional Improvement and Other Duties as Assigned - 5%

+ In cooperation with Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes and Association priorities.

+ Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension and perform other duties as assigned.

POSITION DETAILS:

This position is a full-time, exempt position, 100% FTE. The annual salary for this position is $70,000.00 to $80,000.00 commensurate with experience. This position, based on eligibility, offers a comprehensive benefit package, to include: health and dental insurance, NYS retirement, vacation and sick leave.
