Job Title: Energy Data Acquisition Specialist (1-Year Contract)

Location: Remote (within commuting distance to client site)

Contract Duration: 1-Year Contract

Job location: 100% Remote but must be in commuting distance to Folsom,CA

Hourly Rate: $41.90

Job Overview:

Our client is seeking an experienced Energy Data Acquisition Specialist for a 1-year contract role. This position is a remote opportunity, but candidates should be within commuting distance to the client site. The specialist will provide technical support for the configuration, testing, and implementation of revenue and telemetry metering equipment and processes, primarily in the context of the California ISO (CAISO) market. You will work with market participants such as generator owners, third-party engineering companies, and utility representatives to ensure compliance with CAISO standards and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical assistance in the design, development, and maintenance of standards related to telemetry and revenue metering systems (PLC, RTU, DCS, EMS, SCADA, and CAISO approved meters).
  • Troubleshoot and provide expert advice to market participants and engineering companies regarding the design and configuration of telemetry and revenue metering systems.
  • Research, evaluate, and develop solutions to meet CAISO tariff and BPM requirements related to telemetry and revenue metering, resolving non-compliance issues as needed.
  • Support Full Network Model (FNM) builds, including database builds and Certificate of Compliance, ensuring timely completion in line with New Resource Implementation (NRI) processes.
  • Analyze and coordinate data for resource certification for participation in the California ISO market and contractual resource reserves.
  • Offer training and guidance to internal and external customers, including ISO Authorized Inspectors and Meter Inspection Companies, regarding telemetry and revenue metering.
  • Develop and maintain documented business processes and desktop procedures to ensure compliance with ISO standards and CAISO tariffs.
  • Oversee testing and certification of resources for Ancillary Services, including database management and data analysis.
  • Represent the business unit as a subject matter expert in audits, installations, and configuration verifications to ensure ISO standards are upheld.
  • Provide real-time support to CAISO Control Center for telemetry issues, troubleshooting and resolving problems as needed.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree (BA, BS) or equivalent experience in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Technology, or a related field.(Must have a verifiable Bachelor's Degree)

Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in utility metering, engineering, or a similar field.
  • Experience with the use of test equipment in high voltage substations and generating plants is preferred.
  • Experience installing, programming, and testing revenue-grade meters is highly desirable.

Additional Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong understanding of telecommunication software, hardware, and circuitry, particularly in WAN environments.
  • Proficient in configuring analog modems and reviewing electrical drawings for compliance with ISO standards.
  • Knowledge of SCADA systems and telemetry technology.
  • Strong understanding of electrical theory, including AC/DC circuits, and practical experience with current transformers, voltage transformers, and capacitive voltage devices used in revenue metering.
  • Proficient with various types of metering test equipment, such as watt-hour test kits and burden testers.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to influence others and work independently.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail and strong documentation abilities.
  • Must be self-starting, motivated, and able to work effectively in a team or independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
