    • Bachelor's degree in a work-related engineering discipline such as, but not limited to, Civil, Environmental, Geology, Hydrology, Water Resources, or Geography; OR
    • Four years of professional pre-registration civil engineering or hydrology experience; OR
    • Four years of experience performing technical engineering work
    • Certification as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) may substitute for the aforementioned experience
    • A combination of post-secondary education and/or job-related experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis
    • Positions may have additional experience requirements and/or discipline-specific certifications or professional registration requirements
    • Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Arizona driver's license by the time of hireWe Also Value
      • Proficient in hydrology, engineering, or a related water resources field, with experience in surface water modeling software like HEC-1, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, or FLO-2D
      • Knowledge of ARC-GIS/ARCPro or other GIS software and understanding of FEMA's Flood Insurance Study products and Map Service Center
      • Master's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field, with preferred experience in sediment transport, scour analysis, river mechanics, and HEC-RAS modelingJob Contributions
        • Review and approve river mechanics for planning documents, engineering analysis reports, engineering design reports, engineering plans, specifications, computer models (sediment transport and hydraulic models), engineering calculations, data, parameters, and results for all Flood Control District's engineering and planning projects and permit requests. Perform field reconnaissance to obtain information related to river mechanics on various projects as needed
        • Perform in-house river mechanics engineering analysis, studies, sediment transport computer modeling, advanced hydraulic computer modeling, erosion hazard mitigation design, energy dissipation structures design, and engineering design to support Flood Control District's dams rehabilitation projects, levee construction, and repair projects, bridges, open channels, capital improvement projects, area drainage master studies/plans, water course master plans, floodplain use permit, sand and gravel use permit, right-of-way permit, etc. Perform field reconnaissance to obtain information related to river mechanics on various projects as needed
        • Represent the Flood Control District in various meetings with other governmental agencies, and the public responds to internal and external requests. Provide technical recommendations/assistance
        • Monitor all aspects of a project, including its impact on other projects. Review all assigned projects and report their impact on other existing or proposed projects, FEMA floodplains, FCDMC floodplains, and FCDMC's properties
        • Assist in testing engineering software related to hydrology, hydraulics, and river mechanics. Develop engineering software to assist in engineering applicationsWorking Conditions
          • Exerting up to 20 pounds occasionally, 10 pounds frequently, or negligible amounts constantly or requires walking or standing to a significant degree
          • The position is typically office or administrative work and is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions
