Job DescriptionWe are seeking an Engineer III, Manufacturing Engineering to join our team at Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. In this front line role, you will be instrumental in the development and maintenance of our automated production equipment. This opportunity in Rochester, NY provides a chance to work with innovative technology and be part of an exceptionally creative environment.What will you do?
- Ensure the safety of procured equipment by ensuring compliance with regulations and industry standards.
- Identify and accurately address any unsafe conditions related to electrical safety, shielding and guarding, safety interlocks, and emergency stops.
- Complete safety review checklists for all new equipment and significant changes in processes and equipment. Ensure all work complies strictly with site safety protocols, including lock-out-tag-out and confined spaces.
- Validate new equipment and revalidate significantly modified equipment from an electrical controls and software aspect.
- Coordinate suppliers throughout the quote, design, and build process for sourced equipment. Define control systems, provide design inputs for increased efficiency, evaluate safety, implement PLC ladder logic for improvements, conduct safety inspections, develop SOPs, recommend spare parts, and implement software validations.
- Participate in continuous improvement activities, including PPI and Lean initiatives.
- Support day-to-day manufacturing operations to ensure equipment performs to specification. Recommend upgrades and improvements, and mentor setup support staff to ensure flawless operational and maintenance knowledge.
How will you get there?
- A Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in Electrical, Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering, Controls/Electronics, or a related field is preferred.
- A minimum of 5+ years of proven applicable work experience in machinery controls and electrical systems design and build.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Proficient in electrical, electronics, and controls technologies, including PLC ladder logic programming, configuration, and design review.
- Capable of troubleshooting and repairing automated equipment, electronics, sensors, motors, and servo systems in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience working with production machinery equipment suppliers and managing them successfully through strong communication.
- Skilled in technical writing for engineering validations and reports, and equipment specifications.
- Ability to work successfully both within a team environment or independently.
- Advanced use of Microsoft Office tools.
- Implementing vision systems hardware into machine automation.
- Willingness to travel regionally and internationally up to 20%.
Compensation and BenefitsThe salary range estimated for this position based in New York is $83,300.00-$125,000.00.This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy.
