The Opportunity Good Inside is looking for a strategically-minded, exceptionally organized Engineering Manager to oversee our Platform team. This is a full-time position reporting directly to the Head of Engineering. As our Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for managing and working alongside a team of Python engineers who develop the backend of our user-facing applications. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, project management abilities, and team leadership to ensure the successful delivery of high-quality applications. This is a hybrid role in Manhattan with three days a week required onsite. What You'll Own
- Lead and manage a team of dedicated Python engineers.
- Ensure the implementation of best practices in software development, including code reviews, testing and documentation.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest technology in backend development, with a focus on scalability, and apply this knowledge to tackle complex problems in innovative ways.
- Documenting best practices, architectural choices, and processes related to software engineering and machine learning.
- Provide mentorship and professional development opportunities for team members.
- Conduct performance reviews, set goals and provide constructive feedback
- Facilitate effective communication between the development team and other departments.
- Foster a collaborative and innovative team culture with the ability to hire, onboard and retain top talent.
Your Skills & Experience
- You have a bachelor or masters in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent
- You have 4+ years of experience in a leadership or managerial role, preferably in a startup environment.
- You have 5+ years of hands-on backend development experience in Python, frameworks, and libraries with a focus on performance, scalability and observability.
- You have a solid understanding of front-end and back-end development processes.
- You have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop and maintain relationships at all levels within the organization
- You have exceptional attention to detail and project management skills and experience with tooling like Jira and Notion
