- Between the ages of 18 and 35
- Certified or licensed as a Paramedic by the Texas Department of State Health Services or have a National Registry Paramedic Certification. At the time of entrance examination, applicants must provide evidence of Certification (or Licensure) by the Texas Department of State Health Services or National Registry Paramedic Certification. Current Paramedic students anticipating graduation in December 2024 or who have a course completion certificate will be allowed to take the test; they will not be eligible for hire until they have met the State of Texas certification/licensure requirements.
- Honorable discharge, if served in the military
- Vision of 20/40 or better, corrected to 20/20 with no color blindness
- Required to become certified as a structural fire fighter by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection
- Pass physical agility test given by Tarrant County College within the six months prior to appointment or within 90 days of being appointed
- In addition to above minimum requirements, must:

Must possess hearing to the equivalency of 15-15 (be able to hear a whispered voice 15 feet).6. Must successfully pass a physical agility test given by Tarrant County College within six months prior to appointment or within 90 days of appointment. If hired by the Hurst Fire Department, the successful appointee will be reimbursed the cost of the physical agility test given by Tarrant County College.7. Must successfully pass a polygraph examination.8. Must have an honorable discharge if served in the military service.9. Must not be addicted to any barbiturate or narcotic or the excessive use of alcohol.10. Must be of good moral character and reputation. Convictions or pending charges of any crime involving moral turpitude will disqualify an applicant.11. A thorough investigation will be made of applicants. Any misrepresentations or vital omissions in the application will be grounds for refusing admission to an examination, for rejection after certification for appointment, or for dismissal after being appointed.12. Cannot be a relative of a present Fire Department employee.13. Ability to become certified as a structural fire fighter by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection.
