You will spend almost as much time in the field and laboratory, up close and personal with our projects, as you will in the office. This role will require periodic travel as well as the willingness to work overtime during peak periods. As you grow into this position, you will assume primary responsibility for key aspects of projects and complete assignments with limited oversight.Responsibilities:Complete on-site investigations and condition assessments of structures to evaluate problematic conditions, including survey and documentation of distress, non-destructive testing, and material sampling.Coordinate and/or execute laboratory testing of material samples.Frequently perform testing of the durability properties of concrete and collaborate with WJE's material scientists on chemical and petrographic analyses.Model and analyze the future condition of structures, including use of WJE CASLE, our proprietary service life modeling software.Design repair mitigation schemes, potentially including cathodic protection systems.Assist with drafting and preparing conceptual, preliminary, and final client deliverables, including written reports.Perform in-house research and development in support of WJE's growing durability practice.Eagerly learn and train on the above skills and tasks.Requirements:Master's degree or higher in related engineering field (civil, structural, corrosion, materials, or similar), with excellent academic performance; applicable work experience will be considered in lieu of a graduate-level degree.Experience and/or sustained interest related to corrosion and/or cathodic protection (e.g., coursework, internships, or work experience) is considered a plus.A passion and the curiosity for investigating and solving materials-related problems in existing structures.Effective technical, graphical, written, and verbal communication skills.Ability to prioritize tasks and adapt to changing demands, while maintaining a high standard of excellence, integrity, and attention to detail.Ability and interest in performing work in the field and to travel outside local area.Physical Requirements:Ability to attend meetings at various office, field, and construction sites.Ability to perform inspections of buildings and other structures, both visually and with instruments.Ability to lift and carry materials and equipment up to 50 lbs.Ability to perform work in the temperature presented by work in the outdoors.Ability to read construction drawings, diagrams, printed materials and computer screens.Ability to record data clearly and write passages for reports, letters, etc.Ability to travel.Ability to safely work at heights.Ability to safely use and/or operate ladders, scaffolds, lifts and other access equipment.Ability to understand and appreciate safety training specific to numerous workplace and construction hazards.Ability to safely work in a variety of occupationally hazardous locations.Medically fit to utilize respiratory protection devices and other forms of Personal Protective Equipment.Ability to drive and safely operate a motor vehicle.Annual starting base salary (gross): $74,800 - $101,300. Actual salaries will vary and will be based on several factors including consideration for a candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role.
