Entry Level Production TraineeLocation: Roseburg StudmillSwing shift position - 5:30pm-4:00am/Monday-FridayHours per shift: Employee works 10-hour shifts, with three 10- minute breaks, and a 30- minute unpaid lunch break. Wage: $20.83 Hour (.30 swing shift differential)/Fulltime and Long-term OpportunityAdditional: Medical, Dental, and Vision Benefits with low monthly premiums, 401K with match, HSA with match, and On Demand Pay.Various entry level positions trainee will conduct during a 6-8 week training within the Studmill; see below.Sticker Operator: Communicate with forklift operators to remove full bundles of kiln sticks. Maintain clean and clear work environment. This position can be fast-paced and requires constant attention and awareness of various operations.Bander/ Endwax: Operate bander consistent with production needs. Inspect loads to make sure that they are fit to ship. Communicate with supervisors about wood quality or any problems or potential problems. Make sure loads are banded and wrote on correctly.Paperwrap: Wrap, tag, and end seal units of lumber. Identify and indicate species of wood on paper wrap. Use air and manual staplers to attach paper wrap. Communicate with lift operators to remove and fix bad units. Use air sprayer to apply end wax.Stacker II: Tag and stack units. Remove bad boards and stickers from operations. Fix cross-ups and jam-ups as they occur. Communicate with Lift operators in yard. Keep work area clean and free of trip hazards.Sawmill Sorter Help: To maintain consistent wood flow from the Edgers to the Stackers. Also responsible for EDC Saw Change mid-shift and at end of shift.Dispatch: It is the responsibility of the Dispatch Chaser to follow the requirements below to ensure that all tasks are done safely, while maintaining quality and production goals. Keep work area clear of trip hazards and have a clean working environment. Sticker Operator Essential Functions
Monitoring the sticker flow into slings and strapping up full bundles.Keeping belts and chains running freely.Monitor the flow of stickers into slings, lockout, and lower bundle down to chain to place two straps around the middle of each unit.Monitor and keep the sticker magazines full at the wet board stacker Monitor the chipper and its conveyors for plug ups or the metal detector needing reset.Pick out bad and broken sticks that are to short or split and slide down the chute in the sticker box below.Operate the wet board stacker console on the east side of wet board stacker when possible to help Breakdown operator stay caught up.Keep walkways and catwalks clean of any debris. Bander/ End Wax Essential Functions Keep lathe placer in full and in operational condition. Verify Grade and length for correctness. Spray End Wax. Paint stencil when needed. Change rolls of banding. Utilize slack time by cleaning area. Keep work area neat, orderly, and clean. Clean bander tracks and heads pre-shift. Perform the PM for the machine. Keep battens filled for products being ran. Break off lathe pieces sticking out from units. Fix unit on strapper re-entry and run through strapper. Return miss graded boards to the P.E.T. tree. Stacker II Essential FunctionsComplete daily PM inspection of all machinery in area prior to use. Notify supervisor, and/or maintenance of any issues that cannot be corrected. Operator must bend and twist to fix cross ups on chain and at the hoist. Maintain proper sticker placement in unit being stacked and refill cartridges when needed. Be able to work overtime when needed and come in early to do operator PMs for Stacker. Transfer completed units to bander. Complete down time report daily. Housekeeping - keep work area and walkways clear of obstacles, debris, and lumber. Know how to trouble shoot bander and repair as needed and within a reasonable skill level. .Monitor loads as they are transferred from the outfeed hoist through the bander, paint booth, and load doubler chain. Change banding as needed. Sawmill Sorter Help Essential FunctionsBe able to remove boards from chain that weigh 5-20 lbs.Monitors wood flow from Edgers through sorter line.Singulates lumber on table and throws away any substandard pieces.Maintains communication with all stations to ensure proper wood flow occurs..Keeps work area clean and free of debris.Housekeeping - cleans up during downtime. Dispatch ChaserEssential Make sure all trip hazards are picked up before operating. Check roll cases to make sure they are clear of debris.Monitor cants and flitches at the Type-D to make sure they are going to the correct roll cases and that tipples are working correctly.Monitor machine center quality and alert proper personnel.Communicate with EDC operator if cants or flitches hang up.Assist Newnes, Horizontal, Board Edger operators in fixing crossups. Work in a safe manner following all lock out procedures. PaperwrapEssential Functions Wrap, tag, and end seal units of lumber. Noise or vibration: Machine noise to include machine being operated as well as other machines close by including Forklifts. Hazards: See Job Hazard Analysis. (3) Atmospheric conditions: Fumes: Wood, Dust: Limited, Mist: Water, Odors: Wood particle, Gasses: None, Poor Ventilation: NonePersonal Protective Equipment Required: (1) Eye Protection. (2) Hearing Protection. (3) Rubber or Leather based gloves when handling dry veneer. (4) Approved Footwear.Physical Demands: Required to perform a combination of standing, walking, and climbing stairs. Worker will bend, twist, squat, push/pull (back legs) using waist, shoulders, arms, hands, and wrists to manipulate sheets of veneer on line. Worker will have to visually identify defects and grades associated with stud boards.Skills: Must have excellent hand eye coordination. Use vision/hearing continuously. Reading and speech required to communicate comprehension of Job Hazard Analysis, machine specific lockout procedures, monthly safety training, etc. Worker generally works alone with little supervision. Operators must be self-directed in identifying and efficiently completing each task. Ability to prioritize, organize and make necessary decisions. Safety: (1) Do only maintenance you are trained to do and keep all body parts out of machinery. (2) Always use our 14-step lockout/tagout procedure before doing any maintenance, clearing jams, or getting into machinery for any reason; be aware of stored energy. (3) Always use proper body mechanics (ex: do not over reach, get help as needed to push loads out). (4) Use proper PPE (gloves, eye protection, hearing protection).
