EH&S Manager

Job Summary:
The Environmental, Health, and Safety (EH&S) Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining safety, environmental, and health programs to ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations. The role focuses on fostering a culture of safety, minimizing environmental impact, and safeguarding the well-being of employees and stakeholders. Experience reducing safety incidents and developing safety programs is required. This position is located in Sacramento, California.
Key Responsibilities
1. EH&S Program Development and Implementation:
- Design, implement, and monitor EH&S policies and procedures to meet organizational goals and regulatory requirements.
- Develop and maintain emergency response plans, risk assessments, and incident investigation protocols.
- Identify and evaluate potential hazards, implementing control measures to mitigate risks.
2. Compliance and Regulatory Oversight:
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other relevant local, state, and federal regulations.
- Conduct audits and inspections to identify non-compliance issues and develop corrective actions.
- Serve as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies during inspections and inquiries.
3. Training and Employee Engagement:
- Provide EH&S training for employees, contractors, and visitors to promote safety awareness.
- Develop and deliver educational programs on topics such as hazard communication, PPE use, and environmental sustainability.
- Engage employees at all levels to build a proactive safety culture.
4. Incident Management and Reporting:
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses to determine root causes and recommend preventative measures.
- Maintain records of safety-related incidents and prepare reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- Track key performance indicators (KPIs) and provide regular updates to leadership.
5. Environmental Stewardship:
- Oversee waste management, pollution prevention, and resource conservation programs.
- Monitor air, water, and soil quality to ensure environmental compliance.
- Drive sustainability initiatives aligned with company objectives.
6. Continuous Improvement:
- Stay current with EH&S best practices and emerging regulations.
- Lead or participate in continuous improvement projects to enhance safety and environmental performance.
Qualifications and Skills
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in environmental science, occupational health and safety, engineering, or a related field.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in EH&S management, preferably in the food industry.
Skills and Competencies:
- In-depth knowledge of EH&S regulations and compliance requirements.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Proficiency in EH&S management software and tools.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be highly proficient in Microsoft Office, Excel, database management, spreadsheet creation, email, and internet.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
Work Environment:
- This role will work within the company's 3 manufacturing / warehouse locations.
- Requires the ability to respond to emergencies, which may include after-hours availability.
- This position requires the candidate to be on site in Sacramento, CA daily.
- Work from home or remote work is not available for this position.
Physical Demands:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
Travel Required:
- Travel between company facilities within the Sacramento, CA area.
- May be required to attend training and industry events as directed by supervisor.
