Job Summary

The Site Industrial Safety and Environmental Manager (also referred to as the EHS Manager) will actively promote a workplace safety culture by communicating an organizational vision and shared safety values across all levels of the organization. These values include continuous learning, leading by example, accountability, and worker and leadership engagement. The EHS Manager will also develop and implement a positive reporting process while frequently auditing policies/practices to ensure safe and healthy work environment. While the EHS Manager will primarily be responsible for the KAMAX manufacturing facility in Lapeer, he/she will also maintain oversight of the sales offices in Rochester Hills.

Essential Functions

  • Directs EHS projects, including project design and schedule to meet objectives. Directs the development of short and long-term EHS objectives and recommends goals to management.
  • Ensures, maintains all necessary permits for Environmental and Regulatory Compliance.
  • Ensures that appropriate corrective action is taken where health and safety hazards exist.
  • Directs activities related to EHS programs and ensures company compliance with any applicable regulations.
  • Develops appropriate electronic and hard copy reports and records. May develop new or revise existing electronic or hard copy systems and makes internal and external presentations.
  • Promotes workplace safety and assists in the development, maintenance, and management of EHS programs, including: incident and illness prevention, respiratory protection, contractor safety, and hazardous chemical management.
  • Completes all regulatory reporting requirements (Fire, OSHA, EPA, 14001 and 45001).
  • Manages Safety Committee activities.
  • Manages all different safety programs, conduct training and manage documentation, including but not limited to: Area Safety Representatives (ASR), Lockout/Tag Out, Injury and Illness Prevention Plan (IIPP), Evacuation Procedures, PPE, Pedestrian Safety, Ergonomics, Heat Stress, Blood Borne Pathogens, etc.
  • Compiles, maintains, and interprets safety statistical data related to exposure factors concerning occupational illnesses and accidents, first aid incidents, and near miss records.
  • Conducts root cause analysis for accident reports and evaluates injury case studies.
  • Performs quarterly safety walks with department managers, safety committee, insurance carriers, or consultants.
  • Supports New Hire Orientation safety training.
  • Provides support for worker's compensation claims including intake, investigation, reporting and return to work efforts.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality on all issues related to the position.
  • Adaptability to perform under stress when confronted with emergent, critical, unusual, or dangerous situations; or situations in which working speed and sustained attention are make-or-break aspects of the job.
  • May be required to assist in the consolidation and disposal of hazardous waste.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Manages a team of Industrial Environmental Health and Safety reps.
  • Physically able to conduct inspections and carry equipment used for inspections.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • While primarily a dayshift job, must be able to accommodate a flex schedule to maintain a presence on off-shifts.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Safety, Occupational Safety and Health, or a related field degree highly desirable.
  • Five years of related experience preferred.
  • Experience with online LMS implementation is a plus.

Environmental Exposures

  • Noise – Laboratory machines.
  • Chemicals, oils, acids, sprays, coolants and solvents.
  • Noise – heavy machinery – if in plant.
  • Noise – vibratory bowls and air feed systems – if in plant.
  • Responsible for complying with regulations and standards covered under MISOSHA as well as not damaging, moving, interfering or removed any safety related item that is provided.
