Primary Responsibilities:

The Environmental Compliance Specialist is tasked with ensuring compliance with biological permits, conducting site inspections, and supporting environmental regulatory reporting. Key duties include:

  • Ensuring compliance with all biological permits and regulatory requirements.
  • Optimizing company resources to achieve cost-effectiveness.
  • Conducting or coordinating site inspections as required by facility permits and procedures.
  • Managing and supervising biological consultants as needed.
  • Promoting safety and environmental programs to ensure regulatory adherence.
  • Preparing, reviewing, and submitting environmental regulatory reports to local, state, and federal agencies.
  • Engaging in continuous improvement planning and implementation within the assigned scope.
  • Identifying and proactively resolving potential compliance issues.
  • Developing various documents, including reports, memos, graphs, charts, and tables.
  • Designing and implementing company-specific programs and procedures.
  • Delivering site-specific training and support related to biological compliance.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies.
  • Attending required meetings and calls.
  • Traveling to construction or operating facilities as necessary.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned.

Skills Required:

  • Experience in environmental compliance or related fields.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Strong analytical and reporting tool skills.
  • Intellectual curiosity and a passion for renewable energy and environmental protection.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams.
  • Self-motivated, dependable, and accountable, with a proactive attitude.
  • Ability to work independently, multitask, and take ownership of projects and assignments.
  • Confidence in taking initiative, asking questions, and speaking up when necessary.
  • Familiarity with Federal and State environmental regulations, including the Endangered Species Act, Migratory Bird Treaty Act, Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act, NEPA, CEQA, and Bird and Bat Conservation Strategies.

Education/Training/Certifications:

  • BA/BS in a science-related field.
  • 4+ years of relevant experience in environmental compliance.

Additional Requirements:

  • Ability to work in office and plant environments, including exposure to heights, temperature variations, and humidity.
  • Physical requirements include standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, and climbing stairs or ladders.
  • Outdoor work involving uneven terrain.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn as necessary (e.g., respirators, safety glasses, hard hats).
  • Potential exposure to rotating and energized equipment, hazardous materials, and chemicals.
  • Occasional lifting and overtime or non-standard hours may be necessary.
  • Domestic travel required.
