Primary Responsibilities
The Environmental Engineer will play a key role in supporting water resources projects and environmental engineering initiatives. Key areas of focus include:
- Hydrologic and water quality/watershed assessment and modeling.
- Data management and analysis.
- Wastewater treatment analysis and design.
- Permitting support (NPDES, 404/408, water quality standards, SPCC, etc.).
- Stormwater quality/management.
Role and Responsibilities
- Prepare technical documents and review/edit the work products of other team members.
- Create documents to support pollution prevention and spill preparedness in compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Stamp plans as required by regulatory authorities.
- Provide engineering support for wetlands and stream restoration projects.
- Conduct hydrologic/hydraulic analysis and modeling of stream and river systems.
- Set up and run water quality and watershed models, supporting other modeling efforts as needed.
- Support environmental compliance efforts for municipal and industrial clients.
- Contribute to the design of stormwater controls and wastewater/water treatment systems.
- Develop Civil/Environmental design documents (conceptual, preliminary, final).
- Prepare capital construction cost estimates using regional indices and vendor-provided data.
- Communicate effectively with project teams, clients, and regulatory agencies, both in-office and on-site.
- Participate in data gathering and site visits at industrial facilities.
- Manage personal tasks and time efficiently while maintaining clear communication with the team.
Required Education and Experience
- Education: Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Environmental, or Civil Engineering) from an ABET-accredited program or foreign equivalent.
- Licensure: Registered Professional Engineer (PE) from an accredited state program (required).
- Experience: 8–15+ years in hydrologic and water quality/watershed assessment and modeling, wastewater treatment analysis and design, permitting support, and stormwater quality/management.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and AutoCAD.
Preferred Skills
- Qual2 or similar modeling software.
- Wastewater treatment troubleshooting and design.
- Statistical analysis and NPDES permitting.
- Stormwater management, low-impact development (LID), and SWAT modeling.
- Hydrological analysis of rivers and streams.
- HEC-RAS hydraulic modeling.
Physical Demands and Travel
- Some fieldwork will be required.
- Limited travel to client sites.
