Environmental Health and Safety Specialist
**POSITION DETAILS**
Reporting to the Director of Environmental Health and Occupational Safety at The City College of New York, the Environmental Health and Safety Specialist will support the Director in the development, implementation and delivery of general environmental and occupational safety programs for City College in compliance with the local, state and federal laws.
In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, tasks include but are not limited to the following:
Work with the Director in the development and delivery of various safety training programs for students, faculty and staff (e.g. Laboratory Safety, Right to Know, Radiation Safety, etc.)
Conduct biological, chemical or fire safety inspections, keeps appropriate records and write reports of findings. Works with research labs personnel and Safety Staff to documents program problems and assist with corrective actions
Respond to emergencies related chemicals spills. Fires or other hazardous materials or conditions and takes appropriate actions
Collect and properly stores hazardous waste from science laboratories
Maintain inventories of chemicals inventories and hazardous materials
Review applications for use of biological, chemical and other hazardous materials and assembles materials for regulatory committees
Develop and implement College's Safety and Compliance programs and procedures that will ensure health and safety for students, faculty and staff
Assist with environmental inspections and audits to ensure compliance with government mandates and college guidelines
Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds
**QUALIFICATIONS**
Bachelor's degree and four years' related experience required.
**CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW**
Assists in managing academic and administrative environmental health and safety programs.
- Prepares reports of activities, inventories, incidents, environmental monitoring and related matters
- Assists in the inspection of laboratories, chemical storage rooms and other facilities, ensuring compliance with government and university regulations
- Administers biological, chemical, and radioactive waste disposal programs by communicating with faculty and staff, organizing collection, and contacting appropriate disposal vendors
- May assist in developing compliance strategies and programs for various requirements such as EPA regulations, OSHA/PESH standards and New York's occupational and environmental regulations
- Works with members of the College community to provide professional guidance and assistance on environmental health and safety implications of various projects
- May respond to environmental health and safety complaints
- Performs related duties as assigned.

**COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS**
Salary range: $52,267 - $79,188: Salary commensurate with education and experience.
