Job Description:
The Environmental Health and Safety Specialist (EH&S) plays a crucial role in ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and workplace safety standards in a manufacturing environment. The EH&S Specialist is responsible for promoting a culture of safety and implementing programs that minimize risks to employees and the environment.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, MIOSHA, and local level environmental, health and safety regulations.
- Conduct regular audits and inspections to assess adherence to regulatory requirements.
- Identify potential hazards in the workplace, assess risks and develop strategies to mitigate them.
- Conduct safety assessments and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Establish and maintain a well-organized system for Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for hazardous materials, ensuring that they are easily accessible and understood by all employees.
- Develop and deliver training programs on safety procedures, emergency response, and environmental practices for employees at all levels. Retain training records.
- Conduct hazard assessments and facility inspections to identify risks and implement corrective actions.
- Monitor and report on environmental performance, ensuring compliance with environmental permits and standards.
- Assist in waste management and reduction initiatives.
- Oversee the proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials
- Lead the safety committee, promoting active employee participation in safety initiatives and ensuring open communication regarding safety concerns.
- Develop and implement emergency response plans and conduct drills to ensure preparedness for potential incidents.
- Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incident reports, training sessions, and regulatory compliance documentation. Prepare and submit reports as required.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health, Safety Management, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- 3 years' experience in an EH&S role in a manufacturing environment; including experience with LOTO.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA & MIOSHA regulations, EPA guidelines, and manufacturing safety standards; relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Safety Professional) .
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills, with a strong commitment to promoting a culture of safety.
