Position Description for Environmental, Health, & Safety (EHS) Specialist, QSC, CLE

Position Summary:
The Environmental, Health, & Safety (EHS) Specialist will provide support to the QSC Cleveland plant operation to implement the Environmental, Health, & Safety strategy for Quality Steel. The EHS Specialist will support the Sr EHS Manager and plant operations team to implement sustainable EHS policies, programs and processes through the assessment of risk, identification of improvements and execution of impactful operating controls. The EHS Specialist will partner with leaders and teams to develop strong employee engagement and an environment that fosters continuous improvement and instills a proactive EHS management system The EHS Specialist reports to the Sr Manager of EHS.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide technical and regulatory support in implementing practical, functional approaches with leaders and operations to ensure EHS practices are in compliance with applicable laws, conform to highest company standards, and utilize best practices to manage safety risks to people, property, and the environment.
- Support and share EHS procedures are implemented in standard operating procedures for risk reduction of injuries, illnesses and health exposures.
- · Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations as pertains to the health, safety, and productivity of employees and environmental impact of the organization's operation.
- Participate in root cause analyses of injuries and incidents. Work with teams and assist with safety investigations into incidents and prepare corrective actions to prevent from reoccurring.
- Communicate with individuals, teams, and across the organization to increase awareness, avoid potential risks and share prevention methods for EHS measures. Partner with HR to manage employee performance issues around safety and to build the safety culture.
- Be a visible and dynamic champion of EHS. Model the way, engaging, encouraging and enabling others for a positive impact of EHS as a strategic partner across the business.
- Coordinate the development and delivery of EHS training programs for required regulatory and site-specific focus areas. Develop procedural instructions and maintain EHS records, documents, and reports.
- Utilize lean and continuous improvement tools and behavior-based safety strategies to guide injury prevention efforts.
- Conduct internal health, safety and environmental audits to verify compliance levels.

- Keep current knowledge of safety regulations and maintain knowledge of best practice in the industry as part of recommending improvements.
Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in EHS demonstrating progressive improvements
- Manufacturing industry experience required; heavy industrial manufacturing experience ideal
- Thorough understanding of EHS regulatory requirements and professional best practices

Education and Certification Qualifications:
- Associate's degree in safety, organizational health, or a related field preferred; Equivalent work experience will also be considered.
- OSHA 30 Certification and OSHA Mobile Equipment Certification preferred
Travel
- Minimal travel is required to plant operations, customers and/or suppliers
