About the Role - The primary role of the HSSE Specialist is to advise the Massachusetts leadership team on all environmental, safety, health and welfare matters to ensure the company complies with its statutory obligations. The HSSE Specialist is responsible for oversighting maintenance of the company management systems to ensure that all departments operate to the procedures and instructions contained therein. Responsible for identifying risks to the Taunton site and establishing plans to mitigate the risk and drive continuous improvement. The HSSE Specialist will also contribute to the business culture of the Taunton operations by leading by example through demonstration of IQE values. The HSSE Specialist is a site-based role and reports to Group HSE.
Responsibilities
- Manage, co-ordinate and improve activities and processes to maintain ISO 45001/14001 accreditation for the Taunton site.
- Maintaining the sites environmental operating permit requirements.
- Coordinate all aspects of pollution control, waste management, recycling for the site
- Ensure all compliance reporting is conducted accurately and on time to group and external authorities.
- Promote and raise awareness, at all levels of an organisation, of the impact of emerging HSSE issues.
- Support in the development of improvement activities for the MA site to support continuous improvements and help IQE in its targets.
- Keep up to date with changes in current legislation and to bring to the attention of the site leadership any relevant new legislation.
- Update and monitor the HSE legal and compliance registers for the site through Red Online software and notifying management when a compliance gap has been identified.
- Report on the performance of the HSE management system at management review meetings and use this as a forum for any improvements.
- In conjunction with the site leadership and Group HSE Management, undertake environmental, health and safety planning, including the setting of goals, agreeing priorities, and establishing adequate systems for performance management.
- Routinely audit and inspect the MA facility to ensure day-to-day compliance
- Positively role model good HSE behaviours with respectful challenge where deficiencies are found. Promote a positive culture of health and safety in the workplace.
- Maintain a positive relationship with the OSHA and EPA through management and coordination of site visits.
- To develop and manage the Industrial Hygiene monitoring programme.
- Ensure completion of internal, second party audits for the Taunton site and the group monthly HSE audits
- Creation of internal e-learning courses. Also, with an expectation to deliver internal IQE HSE training courses.
- Responsible for the deployment of the Taunton process safety strategy and take part in process safety studies with the support of the Group Process Safety Manager.
- Ensure all HSSE incidents are investigated to root cause and actions plans are developed
- Audit and improve security arrangements
- Prepare reports, slides and present the data when required at the weekly and monthly HSE Meetings.
About You
- Bachelor's degree in safety or safety related field
- Experience and responsibility for a safety management system operation is desirable
- Previous experience in process safety management with experience of taking part in process safety activities is desirable.
- Good organizational and communication skills and production of concise information.
- Ability to prioritise, work to tight deadlines, both prescribed and self – imposed.
- Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships at all levels.
