Job Summary:
Industry leading manufacturer seeking a highly motivated EHS Specialist to join their team in the greater Portland, OR area. As a key member of the site leadership team, you will apply your technical expertise and engagement skills to drive environmental, health, and safety initiatives across the facility. The ideal candidate will have a strong working knowledge of EHS practices, excellent problem-solving skills, and outstanding communication abilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and corporate EHS requirements by leading site programs, developing procedures, conducting risk assessments, and performing compliance inspections.
- Collaborate across all levels of the organization to interpret and implement EHS standards, provide training, and enhance safety communication.
- Conduct PPE assessments, make recommendations, and manage PPE and safety supply procurement.
- Lead and support Safety Teams, fostering employee engagement in safety initiatives.
- Deliver EHS orientation, compliance training, and refresher courses for plant employees.
- Stay up to date with federal, state, and corporate EHS regulations, ensuring the site meets all requirements.
- Support environmental compliance efforts, including air, water, waste, and hazardous materials management.
- Develop and maintain environmental management systems to ensure regulatory compliance and continuous improvement.
- Prepare and submit regulatory reports to federal, state, and local agencies, as well as corporate leadership.
- Assist with permit applications and modifications, including environmental impact assessments.
- Coordinate industrial hygiene (IH) programs, including air quality monitoring, occupational noise assessments, and toxic exposure evaluations.
- Lead incident investigations, applying Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) methodologies to prevent recurrence.
- Manage SDS inventory and oversee the approval process for new chemicals at the site.
- Lead EHS audits, including internal (1st party) and external (2nd and 3rd party) assessments.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in EHS, Environmental Science, Chemical or Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or equivalent certification preferred.
- 2-5 years of experience in an EHS role, preferably within manufacturing or industrial environments.
- Strong technical expertise in air, water, wastewater, and waste management compliance.
- Familiarity with ISO 14001 requirements.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with shifting priorities.
- Strong organization, planning, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and the ability to quickly learn new systems.
- Experience with DCS control and historian systems is a plus.
- Knowledge of industrial hygiene principles and exposure monitoring techniques.
- Some travel required (less than 10%).
