Salary: $28.98 - $34.80 Hourly Location : 811 Harding St Waupaca, WI Job Type: Full-time Job Number: 25-JAN-EHSS Department: PUBLIC HEALTH Opening Date: 01/13/2025 Closing Date: 1/27/2025 12:00 PM Central Job Summary As a function of the Waupaca County Public Health Department this position enforces county health ordinances and performs inspections, consultations, and investigations associated with environmental health programs conducted by the department. This position applies environmental control measures to protect human health, safety, and welfare. This position works under the direct supervision of the Health Officer. Essential Responsibilities Conducts various inspections, consultations and investigations of food facilities, campgrounds, lodging facilities, public pools, water attractions, body art facilities, and manufactured home communities to determine compliance with WI laws and local regulations. Maintain electronic and paper records related to inspections, consultations, investigations and permits by preparing various reports, analysis and correspondences in an accurate, organized and efficient manner. Collects, prepares, and analyzes drinking water samples. Conducts sanitary surveys and assessment evaluations of transient non-community well water systems. Performs inspections and provides consultation on a variety of environmental health issues including, but not limited to: drinking water quality, surface water quality, air quality, lead, radon, rabies control, vector control, and various health hazard complaints. Investigates human health hazards and works with Health Officer to write enforcement orders as necessary. Conducts educational activities within area of expertise. Participates in training of new staff. PERIPHERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Attend public health emergency preparedness trainings and exercises and assume role during an emergency. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in Environmental/Public Health, Biology, Bacteriology or related science field. EXPERIENCE: One to two years experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Environmental Health Sanitarian: Is a WI Registered Sanitarian (RS) or National Environmental Health Association Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS). Environmental Health Specialist: Is Registered Sanitarian (RS) eligible, which means having met one of the following criteria: Holding a baccalaureate or higher degree in environmental health from an accredited college or university and completing at least 30 semester or 45-quarter hour academic credits in environmental, physical, biological, chemical, or environmental health courses. Holding a baccalaureate or higher degree in physical or biological sciences from an accredited college or university and completing at least 30 semester or 45 quarter hour academic credits in environmental, physical, biological, chemical, or environmental health courses. Holding a baccalaureate or higher degree from an accredited college or university. Holding an associate degree from an accredited college, community college, or technical institute in environmental, physical, biological, or chemical sciences. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Ability to analyze data and information using established criteria, in order to determine compliance, and to identify solutions. Ability to compare, count, differentiate, measure and/or sort, as well as assemble, copy, record and transcribe data and information. Ability to classify, compute, tabulate, and categorize data. Ability to work independently and exercise considerable judgment and discretion in carrying out designated duties according to established policies and procedures. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to effectively meet and communicate with the public. Ability to maintain appropriate confidentiality. Ability to accommodate flexible scheduling needs due to special events, seasonal activities and other situations.
