Duties
You will serve as an Environmental Protection Specialist and be responsible for ensuring compliance with International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 14001 and provide all necessary data/metrics to the Business Operations Division (BOD) for centralized management of data in support of ISO 14001. This includes but is not limited to environmental accident prevention, industrial applications, coordination of the shop Authorized Chemical Lists (ACL) for additions and deletions used at the ALC. The incumbent acts as Command Liaison and Point of Contact to CG Base Elizabeth City, local environmental organizations, and State and Federal Level environmental organizations. .
Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments at the GS-13 level include:
* Ensuring ALC maintains compliance with federal, state and local regulations, DHS and USCG Directives, including Air Quality, Resource Conservation Recovery Act (RCRA) National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) tank monitoring program, and Waste Water Discharge permits held by Base Elizabeth City.
* Establishing and maintaining a system of processes and standards for pollution prevention, under the direction of Base Elizabeth City, and performing P2 Opportunity Assessments for ALC.
* Ensuring conformity and compliance of the ISO 14001 standard.
* Utilizing a chemical tracking system, in collaboration with SEHO Team, to ensure compliance of hazardous waste and air emissions requirements.
* Monitoring all ALC activities that generate hazardous waste and intervening, when necessary, to take immediate corrective action.
* Evaluating and managing the ALC environmental master plan, management systems, and environmental compliance inspections.
* Developing and delivering environmental training to ALC personnel, as appropriate, including hazardous materials and waste, P2, spill prevention and response, and 150 14001 Environmental Management Systems.
* Functioning as ALC liaison for federal, state, local agencies, DHS, Coast Guard Headquarters, and Elizabeth City Commands.
Duties at the GS-12 level are the same, except that it will be considered developmental, with incumbent receiving tailored instruction, guidance, training, and supervision designed to equip the incumbent with the knowledge and skills necessary for successful performance in the full performance level, or target position.
