We are committed to quality and excellence in customer service, and we rely on our organization's values, traditions and - most importantly - our employees to achieve these goals.Nature of Work: The Environmental Scientist manages environmental programs and coordinates the performance of environmental compliance functions throughout the organization. This role oversees projects related to air and water compliance, aboveground and underground storage tanks, spill prevention and control, hazardous waste and materials management, solid waste recycling, indoor air quality and environmental audits.Duties for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:Act as a subject matter expert in the performance of field assessments and routine inspections of fuel oil storage tank systems, oil-water separators, waste management practices and contractor activities;Serve as an environmental representative on the facility Environmental & Safety Committees by participating in meetings and related actions;Perform routine facility environmental inspections and provide guidance on corrective actions to be taken;Assist with implementation of the Environmental Management System (EMS) and manage the web-based database associated with the EMS;Provide safety and environmental training, as necessary;Review and comment on various environmental policies, task orders, proposals, work plans, and other documents to provide constructive and appropriate feedback to address environmental liabilities;Coordinate environmental service projects including but not limited to: waste disposal, recycling, fuel oil storage tank repairs, and adhering to procurement requirements.Employees in this position will report directly to the Environmental Manager, Office of Environment, Safety and Risk Management. The current vacancy exists in Baltimore, MD. Hybrid telework schedules may be available to this position.MDTA employees are offered a generous benefits package including: a minimum of 11 paid holidays, a minimum of 27* days of leave annually (personal, vacation, and sick), access to the State Pension System, deferred compensation plans, excellent health, dental, and vision plans, tuition reimbursement, and more! *May be prorated based upon start date.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Education: Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in natural sciences, earth science, physical science, environmental science, chemistry, physics, biology, agronomy, forestry, horticultural or related sciences, geography, environmental planning, civil engineering, sociology, economics, planning, anthropology, architectural history or related fields such as ecology, landscape architecture, or environmental engineering.Experience: Six (6) years of experience in environmental analysis to include the development of plans, specifications, estimates, and design, OR six (6) years of experience in environmental management to include the development, implementation and monitoring of environmental compliance plans for air quality, storm water management, wastewater treatment, hazardous waste management, pollution prevention, solid waste management or multi-media operations. ** Two (2) years of this experience must involve performing duties related to the sampling, characterization, storage, manifesting, transportation and/or disposal of hazardous wastes.** SELECTIVE QUALIFICATION recruitments are utilized when the position requires specific or additional bona fide occupational qualifications (knowledge, skills and abilities).
