Description
The Environmental Specialist will report directly to the Plant Manager and be accountable for overseeing the site Environmental/Safety programs and procedures to ensure site compliance with necessary regulations. This includes but not limited to permit reviews and reporting, NPDES, Title V, RCRA, RMP, industrial hygiene, OSHA safety regulations and PSM. The Environmental Specialist will work closely with the rest of the leadership team in the implementation of other stie objectives as needed.
Job Responsibilities
* Facilitate the environmental permitting process by ensuring compliance with permit requirements and preparing applications for renewals and modifications
* Annual reporting to regulating bodies
* Provides support to plant personnel to ensure regulatory compliance with safety, transportation and environmental regulations (federal, state and local).
* Works in close cooperation with regulatory agency on permits, audits, inquiries, periodic reporting requirements in a timely and prompt manner.
* Lead investigation of all incidents and ensure completion of AIM reports (excluding major incidents requiring non-unit facilitation resources)
* Works closely with other ALTIVIA EHS resources as required.
* Participate in safety meetings, PHAs, emergency response drills
* Provide unit level support for the maintenance of IH exposure assessments, exposure monitoring and communication of IH exposure records
* Ensure periodic safety equipment maintenance and checks are performed and documented
* Maintain strong interface with Operators/Technicians and Shift Supervisor
* Support PSSR and MOC processes
* Role model the desired safety & health behaviors needed to drive continuous improvement in safety & health performance
* Manage all procedures, procedure reviews and training related to the EHS Manual
* Serve as the point person for INTERNAL safety audits and participate as necessary in external audits (Corporate or OSHA)
Qualifications
Experience & Qualifications (special skills, knowledge, ability, education, etc.)
Minimum Requirements
* Associates in HSE Discipline with 5 years experience OR chemical plant experience and 10 years in a HSE role.
* A strong understanding and experience in OSHA regulations, hazardous materials handling, and environmental regulations
* A proven record of responsibility/accountability to meeting department and plant goals and safety leadership.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills to satisfy the internal customer requirements of this position
* Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks will be essential
* Possesses a high level of initiative and is able to work effectively with minimum supervision
* Maintains a sense of urgency, individual responsibility, and possesses the ability to effectively work under pressure and with changing priorities
* Proficient in Microsoft Office
Preferred
* Bachelor's degree HSE discipline
* Minimum of 5 years experience with permitting or regulatory background preferred.
* PSM experience is required
* Must have thorough knowledge of EPA and State environmental regulations.
* Must have thorough knowledge of DOT regulations.
* Must have thorough knowledge of industrial hygiene practices.
