Position Title: Environmental, Health, and Safety Technician Department: EHSReports To: Environmental, Health, and Safety Manager Location: Attalla, AlabamaRevised: 10/23/2024Position Summary: Assist the Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Manager with compliancefor all environmental permits, safety programs, regulatory requirements, and projects. Responsible formeeting all EHS Department deadlines for which he/she is assigned. To see that the Companycomplies with all applicable EHS regulations and Company policies. To demonstrate excellence sothat regulatory agencies, the public, stakeholders, and employees see the Company as an outstandingCompany from an EHS perspective.2Essential Job Accountabilities:1. Monitor, audit, and inspect the facility to ensure compliance with Federal and State safety and health and environmental permits and regulations.2. Review and maintain written and electronic records in an organized and accessible manner for multiple EHS programs. Provide guidance to facility personnel to address operating issues in order to ensure compliance.3. Work with facility operations in areas of EHS compliance. Track, coordinate, and schedule all EHS training at the required frequencies.4. Prepare cyclic environmental reports required by facility permits and regulations (e.g., Discharge Monitoring Reports, OSHA 300 log, Benzene NESHAP, Subpart CC Vapor Pressure Updates, Subpart BB Monthly Reports, RCRA Reports, and quarterly air permit VOC reports, internal monthly EHS reporting, etc.). In this effort, work with plant personnel to ensure compliance with environmental permits.5. Participate in EPA/State agency inspections at the facility and cultivate positive working relationships with the inspectors.6. Responsible for current knowledge of the status of all environmental permits (e.g., RCRA, CAA, and CWA) issued to GRR. Responsible for current knowledge of applicable OSHA regulations and programs applicable to GRR, including OSHA PSM Program and Site Safety Plans.7. Responsible for accurate technical information and calculations related to projects and reports to which he/she is assigned.8. Responsible for conducting and documenting certain routine assigned inspections (e.g., SPCC, Stormwater, etc.).9. Responsible for informing the Executive Vice President, Plant Manager, and EHS Manager of problems and other information which he/she should be made aware.10. Independently complete or act as project lead for third-party contractors in plant activities to maintain on-going compliance, including: environmental media and waste sampling (e.g., DMRs, LDAR), field investigations, etc.11. Assist in activities to maintain, monitor, audit and complete applications for Federal/State environmental permits or notifications. Additionally, provide support for responses to notices of violation and/or other information requests.12. Review new regulations, State environmental registers and other newsworthy information for potential environmental impacts on the plant.13. Responsible for reviewing all EHS Plans and keeping them current / up-to-date. Revise and improve plans that are deficient or outdated, develop and implement plans that do not currently exist.14. Exhibit knowledge of and ensure compliance with all safety regulations. Independently identify and correct safety hazards.15. Participate and deliver safety trainings, safety topic meetings and task training. Lead the on-site Safety Committee.16. Perform area inspections and accident investigations, as required. Cooperate with all external inspectors.17. Responsible for working with site security to maintain safe workplace in accordance with regulations and site requirements.18. Serves as safety support advisor to site personnel regarding applicable site safety standards.19. Interface with site personnel, customers, and visitors to maintain good relations.20. Establish a safety culture by promoting job safety in his/her job throughout the company. Promote environmental stewardship and safety in his/her role within the company.21. Responsible for carrying out company policies and promoting the company image within the community.22. Creates and maintains an orderly and neat work area.23. Serve in a back-up capacity when the Environmental, Health, and Safety Manager is unavailable.24. Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned from time to time by the Environmental, Health, and Safety Manager, Plant Manager, and/or the Corporate EHS Department.Essential Job Requirements:EDUCATION Preferred four-year degree in environmental science, biology, chemistry, engineering, safety technology, or related field. Two-year degree in environmental science, biology, chemistry, engineering, safety technology, or related field with three years of mandatory work experience.EXPERIENCE One to three years of experience in environmental, health and safety, chemistry, engineering or a related field.REQUIRED SKILLS Effective written and oral communication skills; demonstrated organizational and delegation abilities; must be able to successfully interact in a team environment as well as work independently. Established basis in EHS compliance programs - with both the ability and interest to continue developing this knowledge. Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel.PREFERRED SKILLS Experience working in and around the heavy manufacturing industry, EHS compliance experience.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Ability to physically inspect plant properties where climbing steps, ladders and physical exertion is required. Respirator use may be required.
