EPC Project Manager – Utility Industry Subject Matter Expert (SME)

Bridgewater is working with a dynamic and fast-growing construction company specializing in utility infrastructure development. As we expand our capabilities to support large-scale Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) projects, we are seeking experienced and knowledgeable professionals to join our team. This is an exceptional opportunity for an Industry Subject Matter Expert (SME) with strong project management skills to drive innovative solutions and deliver excellence in the utility sector.
The EPC Project Manager – Industry SME will serve as both a hands-on project leader and a trusted technical expert in utility infrastructure projects. This dual role requires expertise in the design, development, and implementation of utility projects (e.g., power generation, transmission, and distribution) and strong project management skills to oversee engineering, procurement, and construction phases. The ideal candidate will have deep industry knowledge, proven leadership abilities, and the ability to communicate complex concepts to stakeholders at all levels.
Key Responsibilities:
Industry Expertise
- Act as the go-to Subject Matter Expert (SME) for utility infrastructure projects, providing technical guidance and innovative solutions.
- Stay abreast of industry trends, regulatory changes, and emerging technologies to inform project planning and execution.
- Lead discussions on best practices in utility project development, especially within the context of CPS Energy and similar organizations.
Project Management
- Oversee the complete lifecycle of EPC projects, ensuring delivery within scope, budget, and schedule.
- Develop comprehensive project plans, including schedules, budgets, resource allocations, and risk management strategies.
- Monitor progress, resolve issues, and adjust plans to meet changing project demands.
Technical Leadership
- Review and approve engineering designs, ensuring alignment with client specifications and industry standards.
- Provide technical oversight during procurement to ensure the selection of appropriate materials and equipment.
- Collaborate with construction teams to address on-site challenges and ensure high-quality outcomes.
Stakeholder Collaboration
- Serve as the primary technical and managerial liaison for clients, ensuring clear communication and trust.
- Present technical concepts and project updates to clients, regulatory bodies, and internal stakeholders.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with utility industry leaders and key stakeholders.
Compliance & Innovation
- Ensure all designs and implementations adhere to safety, environmental, and regulatory guidelines.
- Ensure all projects meet local, state, and federal regulations, including environmental and safety standards.
- Introduce innovative methodologies and technologies to improve project efficiency and sustainability.
Team Development
- Mentor project teams, sharing industry knowledge and best practices to build organizational capability.
- Foster a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and accountability.
Qualifications:
- Education & Certifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Advanced degree (MBA or MS in Engineering) preferred.
- PMP (Project Management Professional) certification required.
- Professional Engineering (PE) license is highly desirable.
Experience:
- 10+ years of experience in the utility sector, with a focus on EPC project delivery.
- Demonstrated expertise in power generation, transmission, and distribution systems.
- Proven track record of managing projects exceeding $10M in budget.
- Familiarity with CPS Energy's systems, policies, and priorities is a strong advantage.
Skills & Competencies
- Deep technical knowledge of utility infrastructure, regulatory compliance, and emerging industry trends.
- Proficiency in project management tools (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project) and financial management.
- Exceptional leadership, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information to non-technical audiences.
