OPEN TIL FILLEDMINIMUM SALARY: $27,040.00Role and ResponsibilitiesDrives and operates trucks and equipment in the loading, hauling and distribution of materials and in construction and maintenance activities. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:Operates trucks and equipment, to include steel wheel, dump trucks, loaders, backhoes, spreaders, bush hogs, compactors, rollers, pick-ups, grapple trucks and bucket trucks.Operates hand tools, to include chainsaw, shovel, axe and rake. Performs physical labor in the maintenance, restoration or construction of roadways, drainage systems or disposal sites. Loads trucks with clay, sand, rock and soil. Inspects trucks, tools and equipment. Ensures the maintenance of trucks, tools and equipment. Assists with traffic control at work sites, to include flagging, and erecting barricades and signs. Cuts trees, limbs and shrubbery on right-of-ways or adjacent road and traffic areas of assigned work site. Clears ditches, culverts, drains, gutters and beaver dams where applicable. Must be able to meet work schedule and attendance standards. Performs related duties as required. MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:High school diploma or GED; supplemented by six (6) months experience in the operation of heavy duty trucks and equipment; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Requires a valid FL class B CDL prior to employment; may require an N endorsement for tanker truck dependent upon departmental assignment. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to operate heavy duty trucks and equipment requiring manipulation of multiple controls, where excellent eye/hand/foot coordination is essential for safe and productive operations; must be physically able to operate various hand held manual and gas-powered tools and equipment. Must be able to exert in excess of one hundred pounds of force occasionally, or 20 to 50 pounds frequently, or 10 to 20 pounds to constantly lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Physical demands are in excess of those for sedentary work; must be able to perform manual tasks and remain on feet for extended periods of time. May be subject to a significant degree of danger or risk due to extended periods of exposure to outside atmospheric conditions (i.e., rain, extreme heat or cold, high humidity), traffic conditions, working near heavy machinery, use of hot asphalt, dust and the use of chemicals/toxic agents in performing essential functions. May be subject to irate citizens, confined spaces, insects, reptiles, spiders and vegetation. Data Conception: Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural, or compositional characteristics (whether similar to or divergent from obvious standards) of work sites, proportions of materials hauled or distributed, and trucks, tools and equipment utilized. Interpersonal Communication: Requires the ability of speaking and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information; includes issuing and receiving assignments and/or directions. Requires the ability to tactfully and effectively interact with the public and with co-workers. Language Ability: Must be able to communicate effectively in Standard English, and to convey information to others. Intelligence: Requires the ability to apply principles of common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions; to deal with problems involving concrete variables in situations where limited standardized exists; to make independent judgments in the absence of supervisor; to acquire knowledge of topics related to primary occupation. Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to communicate effectively with co-workers, the public, and supervisors. Numerical Aptitude: Must be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide; determine weight; may require the ability to calculate decimals and percentages. Form/Spatial Aptitude: Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width and shape. Motor Coordination: Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes accurately in operating vehicles and hand held equipment. Manual Dexterity: Must have excellent levels of eye/hand/foot coordination. Color Discrimination: Requires the ability to differentiate between colors and shades of color. Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under minimal levels of stress. Avoids violent behavior and any other type of behavior that could threaten the safety of other employees or the public. Physical Communication: Requires the ability to talk and hear: (talking: expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words; hearing: perceiving nature of sounds by ear). Must be able to hear and understand communications through telephone and radio.
