Qualified applicant should be able to
- Perform concrete construction and repair work to include sidewalk, curb & gutter, driveway aprons, drainage basins and pipe systems, and similar.
- Perform roadway construction maintenance and repair work to include pothole repair and patching, shoulder restoration, and similar.
- Perform drainage infrastructure repair and maintenance, to include ditch clearing and re-grading, embankment repair, and site restoration work.
- Perform flagging and manual labor.
- Assist with maintenance and repair of guardrail, hard surface mowing (weed control spraying), and basic tree trimming.
- Load, haul, and operate various kinds of motorized/construction equipment and attachments, including dump trucks, excavators, loaders, concrete and asphalt trucks, bobcats, snowplows, pipe washers, tractors, vibratory rollers, chainsaws, mowers, plate tamps, walk behind saws, etc.
- Perform emergency response functions such as hurricane road clearing and snow/ice control.
- Participate in training and skills development in construction methods and equipment operation towards career progression and personal advancement.
Requires the ability to use hand tools to perform labor, basic knowledge of construction and tools, and ability to learn and carry out flagging procedures and construction equipment operation and adhere to safety procedures.Applicants will be placed in one of three locations - Greenbrier Yard (925 Executive Blvd.), Hickory Yard (149 Benefit Rd), or Bowers Hill Yard (3900 S Military Hwy), depending on operational needs.Requires Class B CDL at time of interview, a tanker endorsement within 30 days of employment, and a CDL Class A within 6 months of employment. Required Qualifications VOCATIONAL / EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT : Requires completion of 10th grade in high school. High school diploma, GED OR specialized vocational training is preferred. SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES : Requires a valid driver's license and a driving record that is in compliance with City Driving Standards . A Commercial Driver's License ( CDL ) is required. Specialized certifications may be required based on department assigned. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT : In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standard, this class requires a minimum of six months of related, full-time equivalent experience. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS : Performance of essential functions may require exposure to confined spaces. Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Emergency operations support work and work locations may be outside of normal job duties.
