Salary: $21.63 - $26.37 HourlyLocation : NorthlakeJob Type: Full-TimeJob Number: 20230712Department: Public WorksOpening Date: 12/06/2023Closing Date: ContinuousDescription POSITION FUNCTION SUMMARY: Must be able to work with or without supervision with the ability to analyze problem to make corrections or to take appropriate action. Incumbent must have experience in the operation of heavy equipment associated with Public Works operations. Incumbent will also assist in maintenance, repair and construction of streets, parks, water, wastewater and storm drainage. Routinely operating small tools, light and heavy motorized equipment associated with these operations during the hours of 7:00 am to 3:00 pm. Monday through Friday, working in all weather conditions or working overtime as needed in all hours of the day or night. Incumbent will be in charge in absence of immediate supervisor.   • Arrive at work every day on time as scheduled.
  • Perform job related tasks as dictated by work orders or supervisors.
  • Train in the water /wastewater technology.
  • Operation of heavy equipment
  • Ability to diagnose electrical systems as related to wells, pumps, and lift stations
  • Have a working knowledge of basic surveying and blue line interpretation.
  • Assist other departments as directed by supervisor.
  • Read and understand written job instructions and plans.
  • Complete work orders and other necessary paper work on the completion of assigned tasks or maintenance of equipment.
  • Hear clearly and interpret hand signals when operating equipment.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Typical Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS: To perform this position successfully, an individual(s) must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. KNOWLEDGE:
  • Theory, principles, practices and techniques of public works and public utilities maintenance
  • Applicable federal, state and local law, applicable to public works and public utilities functions
  • Analyze maintenance issues; evaluate alternative solutions to develop sound conclusions for a course of action or recommendation
  • Understand and apply local, state and federal law for public works and utilities services
  • Complete work orders and other necessary paper work on the completion of assigned tasks or maintenance of equipment
SKILLS:
  • Uses time effectively to accomplish tasks.
  • Exercises sound, expert independent judgment within general policy guidelines.
  • Must be able to operate a city vehicle safely, as well as operate and maintain a variety of small and large construction equipment, including but not limited to: backhoe, loader, and motor grader.

  • High school diploma or equivalent GED.
TRAINING (LICENSE AND/OR CERTIFICATION):
  • Valid Texas CDL A Driver's License and safe driving record
  • Valid TCEQ D Water License
  • Valid TCEQ C Water License and/or Class II Wastewater Collection License within 30 months (APPLIES TO UTILITY PERSONNEL ONLY)
