Salary : $38,563.20 - $51,272.00 AnnuallyLocation : Kilgore, TXJob Type: Full TimeJob Number: 202412Department: Equipment ServicesOpening Date: 08/24/2024SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE Under direction of the Field Superintendent or others as assigned, work with field crews and individuals in the operation of a variety of contractor's equipment and trucks utilized in construction, maintenance, and repair activities; performs a variety of tasks in the maintenance and construction of street, water, sewer, storm drainage systems, public facilities, and/or rights of way.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSThis job description is not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of responsibilities, duties and skills required. Employees will be required to follow any other job related instructions and to perform any other job related duties requested by any person authorized to give instructions or assignments.- Operates trucks of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling, and unloading of various equipment, materials, and supplies.- Operates construction and/or power equipment such as: back-hoe, skid-steer, excavator, compactor, vacuum excavator, and/or jetting machine.- Operates jackhammers, blowers, saws, and other small power equipment and hand tools to maintain public infrastructure and City owned property.- Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to supervisor; cleans equipment.- Assists in the installation and maintenance of traffic control devices.- Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards.- Performs some or all of the duties of Maintenance Worker, as required or assigned.- Controls traffic at work sites by flagging to guide traffic through work areas, as required or assigned.- Provides first aid assistance as needed on work sites.- Regular attendance required.- Provide on-call assistance as needed Examples of Duties / Knowledge & Skills Competencies:Equipment Operator I o Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.o Ability to work independently in the absence of supervision.o Knowledge of City policies and procedureso Skill in following oral and written communications.o Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.o Ability to observe proper safety precautions.o Ability to establish effective working relationships with other employees, supervisors, and the public.o Skill in planning and organizing materials and supplies necessary to complete work orders or daily assignments.o Maintaining accurate records of work performed.o Skill in operating assigned equipment and tools.o Ability to learn to operate associated software systems quickly and efficiently.o Ability to utilize computer hardware and software relating to work and field equipment.Equipment Operator II and aboveo Understand City purchasing policyo Ability to provide supervisory dutieso Maintain and control appropriate tool and material inventorieso Knowledge of general maintenance and repair techniques for water, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems depending on area of assignment. EnvironmentalFactors and Conditions/Physical Requirements:- Work is performed in field environments.- May be subject to repetitive motion such as typing, data entry, and vision to monitor.- May experience rough or unstable terrain and works in high, precarious places and exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.- May be subject to extended periods of bending, reaching, kneeling, climbing ladders, lifting or carrying building materials.- May be exposed to moving traffic, extreme weather conditions, hazardous chemicals, fumes heights, confined spaces, trenches, air and water borne pathogens, body fluids, infectious diseases, rodents and insects.- Must be able to lift up to 80 pounds. Minimum qualifications & Requirements QUALIFICATIONSEducation, Experience, and Certifications:- High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) is required. Experience:- Equipment Operator I 0 to 4 years- Equipment Operator II 3 to 8 years, 3 of which must be related to street/utility systems- Equipment Operator III 7 to 12 years, 6 of which must be related to street/utility systems-Senior Equipment Operator 12+ years, 8 of which must be related to street/utility systemsCertifications:o Valid Texas Driver's Licenseo Valid Texas Commercial Driver's license (CDL) is required for all equipment operator levels above I. Supplemental information Other Important Duties:- Provides backup assistance, on-call coverage and support to other City departments as assigned.- Travels to attend meetings and training. ?
