ESL Teacher (English as a Second Language Teacher) - Montour School District : Job Details

The English as a Second Language (ESL) Teacher at Montour Elementary School provides English language development instruction to elementary students who are acquiring English as an additional language while working collaboratively with other teachers and administrators to meet the needs of the students.

The ESL teacher is responsible for providing ESL instruction to students who do not understand, speak, read, or write English by creating a classroom environment that develops competencies, knowledge, and skills in accordance with each student's ability.

Duties include planning and delivering lessons, collaborating with colleagues, administering formative and summative assessments, completing all documentation required for federal and local compliance, and attending professional development sessions.

Essential Functions include:

• Develop lesson plans and instructional materials to provide individualized and small group instruction to meet the needs of each student in the ESL classroom.
• Implement research based instructional strategies in the development of second language acquisition as a supplement to the regular classroom either through a pullout program or inclusion model based on language proficiency.
• Establish rapport with ESL parents and students to assist with transition into the school/community.
• Administer mandated assessments to measure language proficiency. Administer WIDA testing.
• Collect data to assess the progress of the students in the ESL classroom.
• Other duties as assigned.

Certification Requirements:

• Valid Pennsylvania Department of Education Teaching certification in the following subject areas:
  • English as a Second Language (ESL)
  • Elementary K - 6 or Elementary K-4
