POSITION: Estimator/ Project Manager
POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Estimator at Earth Development will be an integral part of the Estimating and Sales team. With specific focus on estimating jobs, ordering materials, contracting with subcontractors, managing field budgets and cost control through coordination and innovation.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- 4 year degree in either Construction, Engineering (Civil) or related field
- Strong computer skills in both Word and Excel spreadsheets
- Ability to perform takeoffs with Agtek software
- Experience in estimating civil projects
PERFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with HCSS Heavy Bid Software
- Experience in Project Management

JOB SUMMARY:
As the Estimator/Project Manager at Earth Development will be an integral part of the management and sales teams. He will report to the Vice President of Pre-Construction and work closely with the Marketing Executive, General Superintendent, Superintendents, Foremen and Accounting Representative.
MAJOR DUTIES:
Review project plans, specifications and bidding instructions to determine the entire project Scope of Work. Confirm this Project Scope of Work with the customer prior to staring pricing effort.
- Inspect proposed project site, identifying all pinch points, accessibility, soil conditions, demolition and clearing requirements.
- Perform accurate take off on Agtek software to obtain all quantities and volume calculations, inclusive of required project staging.
- Solicit pricing for all non-performed construction facets from subcontractors. Develop subcontractor Scope of Work to allow proper pricing evaluation and eliminate price gaps within the estimate.
- Research and analyze proposed materials, installation methods, product weights, project accessibility for labor and equipment to determine require equipment, labor and shoring for safe installation.
- Obtain price for all required materials, rental equipment, cranes, shoring and traffic control items.
- Input all material quantities into spreadsheet, then develop and enter labor and equipment onto spreadsheet, inclusive of all required rental equipment, cranes, shoring and traffic control items. Enter accurate production rates for equipment and labor.
- Transfer pertain information from the spreadsheet to a Bid Proposal Word document, listing all inclusions, exclusions and qualifications.
- Present Bid Proposal to customer in timely manner with the highest estimating accuracy standards.
- Routinely follow up with customers after submittal of a Bid Proposal in order to uncover questions, negotiate pricing and ascertain the status of the project.
- Work with Vice President of Pre-Construction and Marketing Executive during Contract negotiations.
- Set up accounting budgets, develop project schedule and prepare all necessary field books.
- Orchestrate existing utility locate with our team and the locate providers. Attend all field meeting to assure locate compliance.
- Perform presentation of Contract Scope of Work and exclusions with field personnel.
- Conduct buy out for materials and process appropriate Purchase Orders.
- Orchestrate subcontractor buy out and Contract processing.
- Prepare and present Request for Change Orders.
- Implement Change Order tracking with field personnel.
- Prepare and implement Change Order budgets adjustments.
- Assist in resolving change order problems and collection issues.
- Perform draw applications with required forms.
- Review time sheet for proper coding, billing and processing.
- Procure all required as-builts, close out documents and submit to the customer.
- Review overall budget tracking with the Vice President of Pre-Construction and field personnel.
- Conduct yourself in such a way as to promote honesty, fairness and integrity in dealing with customers, their employees and all Earth Development employees.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED BY THE POSITION:
- Ability to read and understand plans and specifications.
- Master estimating skills.
- Effective written and verbal English language communication skills
- Ability to use independent judgment; self-starting
- Master Excel and Word computer skills
- Ability to create and manage Critical Path Schedules
- Have a basic understanding of budget accounting methods and procedures.
- Ability to analyze drawings, specifications and understand the construction process.
- Willingness to respond to customers and field personnel needs at any time.
- Ability to present and explain with detail all costs associated with Bid Proposals and Change Orders to customers.
- Positive project team attitude.
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS:
- This position will report to the Vice President of Pre-Construction

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK:
- The work consists of varied duties associated with estimating and project management.
- The purpose of this position is to estimate with the highest accuracy standards and successfully sell project, then manage the jobs in the most efficient and innovated manner to product cost-effective projects.

- Contacts are typically to discuss and coordinate Sales and Marketing in the bidding stage and selling efforts, review estimates from Subcontractors, order materials, process draw applications, present, execute and implement change orders, resolve billing issues and orchestrate field budgeting.
