Job Responsibilities

- Analyze project specifications, blueprints, and related documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates for projects and bids.

- Collaborate with engineers, clients, and vendors to formulate estimates, considering government regulations and potential risks.

- Assess cost effectiveness of products, projects, or services by tracking actual costs relative to bids as projects develop.

- Use specialized software to calculate, analyze, and adjust estimates.

- Prepare and present detailed cost analysis reports or bids for management and clients outlining the scope, cost, duration, and labor estimates for each project. ensuring transparency and accuracy in the estimation process.

- Maintain current knowledge of industry trends, government regulations, and aerospace materials and technology advancements to provide accurate estimates.

- Review subcontractor and supplier bids for conformity to project specifications and government contracting requirements.

- Advise on cost-saving measures or potential areas of budget overruns.

- Utilize specialized software for estimation, project management, and government contracting to improve the accuracy and efficiency of cost estimates.

- Ensure compliance with all government contracting guidelines, including Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) and Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS).

- Coordinate with the procurement team to ensure material costs are accurately reflected in project estimates.

- Participate in proposal preparation and submission, ensuring all financial information is correct and competitive.

- Work with the procurement team to obtain bids from vendors and subcontractors by specifying materials, identifying qualified subcontractors, and negotiating prices.

- Evaluate a product's cost-effectiveness or profitability and suggest ways to cut costs and increase revenue.

- Maintain records of estimated and actual costs, and report any discrepancies or changes in cost estimates to management.

- Ensure compliance with company standards, industry regulations, and project requirements.

- Participate in project meetings and provide updates on estimation progress and challenges.

Requirements:

- Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field

- Minimum of 3 years' experience in cost estimating, engineering, or a similar role within the aerospace industry

- Familiarity with government contracting processes and Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR)

- Proficient with estimating software

- Strong understanding of aerospace manufacturing processes and technologies

- Experience in preparing and presenting cost estimates/proposals for government and defense contracts

- Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and schematics for estimation purposes

- Knowledge of material costs and labor rates as they apply to aerospace components and systems

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel for complex spreadsheets and data analysis

- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams

- Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy in preparing and entering financial information

- Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously

- U.S. citizenship required due to nature of work involving government contracts

- Active security clearance or ability to obtain one may be preferred or required

- This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.
