Description:Position Summary: The Adams-Banks administration has outlined a bold vision to reimagine the educational experience for all New York City Public School (NYCPS) students, so they graduate with real-world skills and experience, a head start on postsecondary, and a strong plan to put them on a path to a rewarding career and long-term economic security.The Office of Student Pathways, under the leadership of the Chief of Student Pathways, is tasked with driving towards Chancellor Banks' bold vision to reimagine the student experience through career-connected learning so that by 2030:
  • 100% of NYCPS students will enter high school with skills in financial literacy and computational thinking and having explored careers of interest;
  • 100% of NYCPS graduates will have foundational skills for career readiness, computer science, and financial literacy, a strong plan, and early college credits/career credentials;
  • 100,000 NYCPS high schoolers will have in-depth experiences in career-connected pathways, including internships or apprenticeships, in high growth, high opportunity fields.
  • Within the context of these goals, the Executive Director of 21st Century Skills will lead the development and execution of strategies to integrate “real-world skills,” essential 21st century skills–such as digital fluency, Computer Science, financial literacy, career readiness–into centralized curricula, district initiatives and Chancellor Banks' signature career-connected learning programs, FutureReadyNYC and Career Readiness and Modern Youth Apprenticeship. The incumbent will be pivotal in driving and garnering support and adoption of sustainable school, district, and citywide models of PreK-12 21st century skill acquisition and authentic career-connected applications aligned with the Chancellor's vision. The incumbent will drive momentum across a diverse ecosystem of stakeholders (school and district leaders, local and state government, institutions of higher education, employers, community-based organizations) to create key enabling conditions for 21st century skill adoption, including educator training and certification options.Reports to: Senior Executive Director, Student PathwaysDirect Reports: Deputy Executive Director, 21st Century Skills; Director of Innovation and 21st Century SkillsKey Relationships: Office of Student Pathways leadership team; Division of School Leadership; Office of Teacher Recruitment and Quality; Employer Partners; City University of New York (CUNY), State University of New York (SUNY), and other Higher Education Partners; the Fund for Public SchoolsResponsibilitiesStrategic Vision and Leadership:
    • Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy to promote and integrate 21st-century skills, including critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity, into curricula and training programs.
    • Collaborate with the CEO and senior leadership team to align 21st-century skills initiatives with the organization's overall mission and goals.
    Program Development and Management:
    • Design, launch, and oversee educational programs, workshops, and initiatives aimed at enhancing 21st-century skills for students, educators, and professionals.
    • Evaluate program effectiveness through data analysis, feedback, and performance metrics, and make necessary adjustments to improve outcomes.
    Partnership Building:
    • Cultivate and maintain relationships with educational institutions, industry leaders, government agencies, and community organizations to foster collaboration and support for 21st-century skills initiatives.
    • Lead efforts to secure funding and resources through grants, sponsorships, and partnerships.
    Advocacy and Awareness:
    • Promote awareness of the importance of 21st-century skills through public speaking engagements, media appearances, and educational campaigns.
    • Advocate for policy changes and educational reforms that support the development of 21st-century skills at local, state, and national levels.
    Team Leadership and Development:
    • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of professionals dedicated to advancing 21st-century skills initiatives.
    • Provide guidance and support for team members, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
    Research and Innovation:
    • Stay informed about emerging trends, best practices, and research related to 21st-century skills and educational technology.
    • Incorporate new insights and innovations into program design and implementation.
    Reporting and Evaluation:
    • Prepare and present regular reports on program progress, outcomes, and impact to the CEO, Board of Directors, and other stakeholders.
    • Utilize data and evaluation findings to inform strategic decisions and enhance program effectiveness.
    Qualification Requirements:Minimum
    • Graduation from an accredited college with a baccalaureate degree and four (4) years of full-time paid supervisory, administrative, consultative, managerial or executive experience of a nature appropriate to the duties of the position, such as budgeting, personnel, public relations, education or equivalent, or four (4) years of full-time paid experience as assistant to an executive in one of the fields described above, or a satisfactory equivalent; or
    • High school graduation or equivalent and eight (8) years of full-time, paid experience as described in “1” above; or
    • A satisfactory equivalent combination of post baccalaureate education and experience. However, all candidates must possess a high school diploma or its equivalent as described in “2” above.
    Preferred
    • Commitment to equitable outcomes for all students and a track record of advancing this goal through your professional work.
    • Deep experience and expertise in educational leadership, program development, and strategic planning.
    • Wide experience working with schools, districts, higher education, state and federal agencies, policymakers, colleges and universities, and businesses and community organizations.
    • Expertise in career and technical education, postsecondary success, and/or workforce education.
    • Experience in the private sector or building relationships with employers and higher education, particularly in the green economy sector.
    • Excellent written and spoken communication skills; ability to organize facts and present information and figures in a clear, concise and logical manner, both spoken and in written.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills in dealing with education and non-education personnel, internal and external to NYCPS.
    • Ability to think strategically and translate insights into action.
    • Ability to work under pressure and in a fast-paced environment.
    • Creative problem-solver with the ability to perform independent, thoughtful analysis around important educational issues.

    Salary: $188,592 - $198,000

    (Internal candidates who are selected for this position and who currently hold comparable or less senior positions within the DOE will not earn less than their current salary.)
