Position Title:Executive Director, Academy of Food MarketingTime Type:Full timePosition Summary and Qualifications:The Executive Director of the Academy of Food Marketing will provide leadership and administrative oversight to the Academy of Food Marketing and the Food Marketing Educational Foundation. Reporting directly to the Dean of the Erivan K. Haub School of Business (HSB), the incumbent will direct fundraising, student placement, student recruitment, cooperative education placement, and scholarship allocation for over 200 food marketing majors, and will provide resource support to the Campbell Library. Scholarship funds come from an internal endowment held in trust by Saint Joseph's University for the Academy and from funds raised by the Academy on an annual basis. The Academy is self-funded and, as such, the Executive Director is responsible to meet payroll and operating expenses for the program.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: - Coordinate student recruitment with the University Admission Office. (This is the most important responsibility in the Academy.)
- Lead fundraising activities to support the Academy of Food Marketing (AFM) and its activities; coordinate strategic planning for AFM fundraising with the HSB Dean, Vice President for University Relations and Vice President for Advancement.
- As Executive Director of the Food Marketing Educational Foundation, responsible for all fundraising associated with the Foundation. Fundraising involves events held up and down the East Coast and are supported by individual and corporate donors; must raise, on a continuing basis, $1.5 million to support scholarships, salaries and expenses.
- Maintain funding, including working on a continuing basis with the Foundation's wealth managers and Board to ensure proper investment of the Foundation's assets.
- Oversee the scholarship program of the Academy of Food Marketing.
- Serve as Secretary to the Board of Governors of the Academy's 40-person organization that meets three times per year and oversees all aspects of the program; responsible for the implementation of a full committee structure with regard to the Academy Board; develops meeting agendas and facilities Board meetings.
- Meet regularly with the Dean of the Erivan K. Haub School of Business to ensure alignment of goals and strategies between the School and the Academy
- Work with faculty in HSB to ensure the success of the academic food marketing major
- Coordinate student placement program with University Career Services
- Oversee the administrative functions of the Food Marketing Coop program, including the coordination of employment opportunities for students
- Manage day-to-day operations of the Academy of Food Marketing, including supervision of staff, ensuring compliance with University policies and practices.
- Work with the Foundation's counsel to ensure the Foundation's compliance with all applicable federal, state and local laws, particularly as they apply to non-profit organizations.
- Work with the Foundation's independent auditors to ensure proper filings with the federal government with regard to tax exempt status and to prepare financial documents on an annual basis for board review.
- Manage the annual audit as mandated by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, which ensures the legitimacy of the Foundation's activities within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as the incorporating state.
- Maintain the Foundation's legality in six states by registering on an annual basis with the state fundraising authorities.
- Work with the Foundation's insurance company to provide for appropriate Directors and Officers life and liability insurance.
- Directly supervises: Senior Director, Fundraising (1); Director, Food Marketing Cooperative Education Program (1); Operations Analyst (1); Program Recruiter, Academy of Food Marketing (1)
Secondary Duties & Responsibilities:- Manage all other Foundation activities where appropriate and necessary.
- Represent the Academy at University, community, industry and fundraising events as needed
- Serve on University committees as requested by the Dean
Minimum Qualifications:Required
- Bachelor's Degree in Food Marketing or Business or a closely related field of study and a minimum of 10 years' experience in the food industry in a leadership role, along with a broad scope of industry relationships and networks
- Minimum 8 years' experience in a supervisory capacity
- Demonstrated intimate knowledge of the make up and structure of the food industry
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple budgets
- Successful experience with report preparation process
- Respect for and ability to maintain confidentiality
- Excellent written, oral and interpersonal skills; excellent planning, organization and project management skills;
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with diverse groups of people
Preferred
- Master's degree in related field
Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours:- Some evening and weekend work. Also evening meetings and travel.
