Organization Summary:

New York City School Support Services ( NYCSSS ) is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit created in 2016 to employ custodial helpers for NYC Public Schools. ( NYCPS ) We employ over 7,000 school custodial helpers across NYCPS' 1,400 school buildings. All NYCSSS custodial helpers are supervised by NYCPS Custodial Engineers (school building managers) who are employed by NYCPS's Division of School Facilities. ( DSF )

NYCSSS was created by the City of New York for this purpose and provides these services exclusively to the City of New York. NYCSSS is overseen by a 5-member Board of Directors which includes the Schools Chancellor (of NYCPS) and Budget Director. (from NYC's Office of Management and Budget, or OMB )

Job Summary:

NYCSSS is seeking a highly experienced Executive Director to lead our not-for-profit organization. The ideal candidate will have a robust background in financial and operational management, human resources, and strategic planning. This role demands a visionary leader with a proven track record in optimizing business processes, negotiating collective bargaining agreements and contracts, and leveraging technology to enhance organizational efficiency and provide comprehensive support to NYCPS.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Management:

* Utilize extensive executive experience to lead and inspire a small and diverse team towards achieving strategic goals (35 employees)

* Drawing on past successes in managing large teams and administrative functions, foster an inclusive and productive work environment.

Strategic Planning:

* Spearhead the development and execution of long-term strategic plans with specific goals and objectives by utilizing a deep understanding of business and financial planning.

* Leverage expertise in technology planning and project management to drive organizational efficiency and innovation to achieve strategic priorities.

Operational Oversight:

* Oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of all programs and services, ensuring alignment with organizational goals while meeting Key Performance Indicators ( KPI ) of the contract with NYCPS

* Continue to develop and enforce standard operating procedures, informed by a history of established and refined operational practices.

Financial Management:

* Manage, develop, and coordinate a $800M+ annual budget with proficiency, drawing on experience overseeing multi-million-dollar budgets and achieving financial accuracy.

* Ensure accurate and timely financial compliance with all relevant regulations and reporting to the NYCSSS Board of Directors and other external oversight bodies, including the NYC Comptroller's Office

* Leverage past success in achieving clean audits and managing complex financial operations

* Serve as trustee on the Board of Directors for the pension funds of represented employees, including (but not limited to) the School Workers Pension Fund

Community and Public Relations:

* Represent the organization effectively externally, advocating for its mission and building relationships with key stakeholders, community leaders, and union representatives.

* Enhance the organization's public image and outreach based on extensive experience in stakeholder relations.

Board Administration and Support:

* Prepare for and participate in board meetings, providing timely and accurate information to support governance and decision-making.

* Assist in the development and implementation of governance best practices, drawing on experience with board-level reporting and support.

Qualifications:

Education:

* Bachelor's degree in business administration, facility operations, project management, finance, or related field; Master's degree preferred.

Experience:

* 10+ years of executive experience in leadership roles including financial and operations management, with a proven track record in strategic planning, technology implementation, and human resources.

* Demonstrated expertise in managing large budgets, negotiating contracts, and optimizing business processes.

Skills:

* Strong leadership and team management abilities, with experience guiding and developing high-performing teams.

* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a history of effective stakeholder engagement and public representation.

* Advanced financial management and budgeting skills, with a strong analytical approach and attention to detail.

* Proven ability to develop and implement strategic plans and operational improvements.

* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

* Expertise in technology planning and project management, with a focus on leveraging technology for organizational efficiency.

Compensation:

* $200,000 - $250,000
