Executive Director Position
The Board of Directors of the Nevada Rural Electric Association (NREA) is seeking a motivated and visionary leader to become the organization's next Executive Director.
The NREA represents the mutual interests of ten consumer owned, not-for-profit, rural electric utilities that serve consumers across the State of Nevada. The NREA collaborates with national and regional affiliates to advocate for its members and their consumers with federal and state legislators, government agencies, local governments, and like-minded organizations.
Successful candidates will possess the ability to build strong relationships, have outstanding communication skills, and the vision to help lead NREA and its members into the future.
About the Position
The NREA Executive Director is the association's chief operating officer and is responsible for all matters of the association.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement a strategic government relations program that promotes, supports, and influences federal and state legislative and regulatory activities to seek outcomes favorable to Association members.
- Provide general oversight and develop strategy in the administration of the organization's Political Action Committee, the Rural Electrification Advocates of Nevada (REAN).
- Develop and implement a strategic communications and member engagement plan to ensure that the members of the statewide are informed of programs, projects and activities of the organization.
- Support the NREA Board of Directors, Executive Committee, and various other committees of the membership and Board of Directors.
- Plan and execute all association events, including: (1) Six NREA Board of Directors Meetings, annually; (2) NREA Annual Meeting and Golf Scramble; (3) NREA Annual Best Practice Workshop; (4) Public Power Day at the Nevada Legislature; (5) Annual Washington, D.C. Fly-In; and (6) periodic strategic planning sessions.
- Manage and report the financial activities of the association, including development of the annual operating budget and recommendation and implementation of policies and procedures to maintain the financial health of the organization.
- Supervise and manage all association consultants, contractors, volunteers, and staff.
The position reports directly to the NREA Board of Directors. Due to the nature and responsibilities of this position, a significant amount of travel is required.
Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Administration, Political Science, or a relevant field is preferred. Commensurate experience may be considered as an alternative.
- 5+ years of Government Relations experience or other relevant experience.
- Experience working with executive level personnel.
- Experience in creating and managing budgets.
- Experience in managing projects and meeting deadlines.
- Familiarity with electric co-ops, electric utilities, or not-for-profit business models is preferred.
- Residency in or near to the Las Vegas or Reno metropolitan areas is preferred.
