Executive Director
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will work in close collaboration with the Scientific Director and Chief Mission Officer, both Vice Chairs on the Board, and oversee and inspire a dedicated staff of six, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and accountability. The LAM Foundation is headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio, where three staff members are located with three members of staff located outside of Ohio. The LAM Foundation contracts its financial, human resources, IT, and other consulting services to supplement its organizational capacity.
Because The LAM Foundation is a small organization with an annual operating budget of approximately $1.5 million, the Board of Directors created and appointed two key officer positions to provide additional expertise, time, and support in collaboration with the Executive Director. This collaborative leadership model enhances the organization's capabilities through the activities of:
- The Scientific Director, a member of the Board of Directors and a recognized expert in LAM science and clinical medicine, who manages key relationships in the scientific community, oversees the basic and translational research strategy, the Scientific Advisory Board, and the research grant-making process.
- The Chief Mission Officer, a member of the Board of Directors, focuses on building strategic relationships in the rare disease and women's health sectors and fosters partnerships with academic, private, and public institutions. This role ensures long-term organizational viability by securing diverse funding sources and establishing strategic alliances.
This unique collaborative approach among the Executive Director, Scientific Director, and Chief Mission Officer is intended to support the responsibilities of the Board and Executive Director in a team approach. Collaboration and consensus building have been instrumental in building a vibrant, focused team of exceptional leadership.
The recent history of this unique approach to leadership in a small organization with scarce resources has been highly successful. We intend to find an Executive Director who is self-confident in their position and eager to continue this unique format. The Board of Directors retains its governance, fiduciary, strategic, and legal responsibilities. Any issues that may arise among the ED, SD, and CMO that cannot be resolved through a collaborative consensus may go to the Board for a decision.
