Eagala Executive Director, Position Description

Title of Position: Executive Director

Reports to: Eagala Board of Directors

Location: Remote

Founded in 1999, the Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association's (Eagala) nonprofit mission is to provide education, standards, innovation, and support to professionals providing services in equine-assisted psychotherapy and personal development globally. Our Mission is to set standards, provide support and educate professionals who are changing lives with Eagala Model services. Eagala envisions a world where all people have access to Eagala Model services improving lives and systems worldwide. Eagala is a membership association with over 2000 certified members in over 40 countries, and over 500 Eagala Model programs in operation. The Eagala budget is approximately $1.8 million.

Position Summary

The Executive Director (ED) serves as the leader who oversees all operations of Eagala. The ED has overall strategic, leadership, and operational responsibility for Eagala's staff, programs, expansion, and execution of its mission. The ED will uphold an organizational culture consistent with Eagala's values.

Eagala ED Qualifications

The Executive Director (ED) is thoroughly committed to Eagala's mission and the Eagala Model of equine-assisted psychotherapy and personal development. The betterment of the organization should guide all decision-making. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated success in organizational management and development, and leading teams toward operational outcomes. All candidates for the position should have proven leadership, coaching, and relationship management experience. The ED will provide operational and financial oversight and responsibility. The ED will be a dynamic spokesperson for the organization, effectively communicating the Mission while overseeing and expanding the development and budgetary goals.

Concrete demonstrable knowledge, skills, and experience include:

  • More than three (3) years of successful experience in nonprofit management, with at least three (3) years at an executive staff level. Senior management experience with global experience and a strong marketing background is preferred. An established track record of effectively leading an outcomes-based organization; taking a large organization to the next stage of growth through strategic development across several geographies.
  • Licensed, with a Master's level degree or above in a Mental Health field of practice.
  • Ability to ensure ongoing programmatic excellence and quality in administration of program and experience in oversight of quality programs and data-driven program evaluation.
  • Exceptional collaborative management skills with the ability to coach staff, manage, and develop high-performing teams.
  • Set and achieve strategic objectives, and successfully manage the annual budget.
  • Demonstrated success in setting and achieving financial and organizational goals. Experience with fiscal responsibility and budget management.
  • Past success working with a Board of Directors with the ability to cultivate and engage existing board member relationships.
  • Strong marketing, public relations, and fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and cultures. Manage and execute solicitations and campaign strategies to meet revenue goals.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills; proven success in presenting to audiences of varying disciplines.
  • Possess significant knowledge of the field, relevant subjects, and issues that currently impact Eagala.
  • Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse cultures and groups of people; possessing the ability to communicate in various languages is preferred.
  • Knowledge and capability with technology and telecommunications to effectively communicate and manage projects with international and long-distance teams.
  • Responsibilities/Tasks/Key Performance Indicators of the ED Position

  • Organizational Leadership
  • Oversee all operations providing consistent successful outcomes of organizational goals and objectives by assessing the needs of the organization and creating organizational goals in alignment to the needs of the membership and stakeholders.
  • Serve as an effective spokesperson for the Organization representing the mission and values of Eagala.
  • Ensure ongoing programmatic excellence, rigorous program evaluation, and consistent quality of in the Organization and its programs.
  • Foster an ethical environment of teamwork, promote diversity and cooperation while actively engaging Eagala members, staff, contractors, volunteers, committees, partnering organizations, and funding entities.
  • Implement the Strategic Plan to provide consistent successful outcomes of organizational goals.
  • In cooperation with the Board, annually review and update the Succession Plan.
  • Administration and Management
  • Develop and administer operational policies and plans.
  • Ensure decision-making is in alignment to Organizational goals and establishes priorities.
  • Responsible for exhibiting and mentoring a teamwork approach to management.
  • Takes decisive independent action and anticipates consequences of decisions.
  • Oversee all programs, services, and activities to ensure that program objectives are met.
  • Excellent customer/membership support provided to ensure adherence to Eagala mission.
  • Oversee business and program development, including independent contractors, and ensure that strategic objectives are met.
  • Ensure compliance with funding sources and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure organizational risk management procedures and policies are in place, including proper insurance policies, copyrights and trademarks.
  • Provides information for evaluation of the organization's activities.
  • Finance
  • Oversee and direct overall development and revenue efforts of Eagala, generating revenue growth to support operations and programs.
  • Develop, recommend, and monitor annual and other budgets in coordination with the Board of Directors and with Board approval.
  • Responsible for managing the Organization's resources within budget.
  • Work collaboratively with the Finance Committee to prepare reports as established and/or requested.
  • Oversee proper fiscal record keeping and reporting for appropriate regulatory entities.
  • Personal Development and Evaluation
  • Promote collaboration and encourage effective communication.
  • Establish transparent and timely expectations toward the accomplishment of Key Performance Indicators.
  • Administer personnel policies, provide for adequate supervision and evaluation of all staff and volunteers, and adhere to proper hiring, termination and disciplinary procedures.
  • Develop policies and practices to promote multi-cultural awareness in the organization.
  • Create, implement and review evaluation processes for staff.
  • Prepare and implement annual evaluation of staff and key contractors.
  • Communications and Public Relations
  • Deepen and refine all aspects of communications - from web presence to external relations - with the goal of creating a stronger brand, increased public awareness of the Eagala Model, and support for members.
  • Use external presence and relationships to garner new opportunities. Cultivate and manage relationships with new partners, donors, businesses and funding entities.
  • Exhibit good judgment and communicate directly in ways that are contiguous with the mission of Eagala.
  • Represent Eagala in the media and local community, as well as national and international professionally related venues.
  • Board Relations and Support
  • Support the Board of Directors and designated committees to ensure the Organization operates in alignment with its mission.
  • In coordination with the Board, develop a strong sense of team and singularity of vision with a common message to membership and stakeholders.
  • Provide support for the initiatives of committees and establish sound working relationships to develop and execute goals.
  • Promote active participation by the Board of Directors through collaboration.
  • Partner with the Board of Directors to advance and support recruitment efforts and training of new board members.
