Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Health & Wellbeing (AVP), the Executive Director serves as LSU's principal administrator for collegiate student health services including a Medical Clinic, Mental Health Service, Sexual Health, and GYN Care, Wellness and Health Promotion, and the Lighthouse Program, which supports survivors of sexual assault and interpersonal violence.The Executive Director supervises five full-time staff and serves as a university liaison to Our Lady of the Lake (OLOL), LSU's partner in the administration of the Medical and Mental Health Service areas of the SHC. As part of the Division of Student Affairs effort to promote wellbeing across campus, this person serves as a part of a team led by the AVP that determines strategy for campus-wide holistic health and wellbeing programming.GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THIS POSITION INCLUDE:
  • Provides internal leadership and strategic management for the SHC.
  • Supervises staff to ensure all SHC-related services are delivered with quality, timeliness, and effectiveness.
  • Serves as the primary representative and a liaison of the department to internal and external stakeholders, including collaborating with OLOL to ensure excellence and high quality in SHC operations.
  • Manages and makes key decisions about resources to allow for alignment with institutional objectives and ensure efficiency and effectiveness.
OPPORTUNITIES FOR LEADERSHIP:Champion and Implement the Newly Established Strategic Direction for SHCIn Spring 2023, LSU partnered with OLOL, a regional private medical center within the Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System. As part of this collaboration, OLOL provides administrative oversight alongside the Executive Director and other LSU leaders for our medical and mental health service areas. The Executive Director will join at a pivotal time when a newly developed strategic plan aims to elevate SHC services. They will have the opportunity to implement this plan, in partnership with OLOL, focusing on achieving key student health-related outcomes.Redefine and Renew SHC's Commitment to an Integrated Care ModelThe American College Health Association (ACHA) recommends an integrated care model that depends on policies, processes, practices, and people working in concert and in nearby spaces to provide a seamless experience for students who use SHC services. The LSU SHC is committed to maintaining an integrated care approach, but structures and processes need revisiting to best implement. The new Executive Director will engage their leadership team in efforts to realize determined student health-related outcomes in new and innovative ways to ensure the continuation of an integrated model. Aid in Refining Campus-wide Wellbeing InitiativesServing under the AVP for Health and Wellbeing, the next Executive Director must bring a commitment to collaborations that showcase how SHC programs and services contribute to collaborative campus wellbeing initiatives. This person will serve on a team of individuals that includes campus partners, such as University Recreation and Residential Life, who are committed to building out a plan for campus-wide support of student health and wellbeing.Connect SHC Programs and Services to Institutional Efforts for Student Success At LSU, everything we do must lead to student success outcomes - attention to retention, persistence, and graduation is a priority for the collective campus. With a growing student body, including increased out-of-state, first-generation, and Pell-eligible students, we have an opportunity to help students make health-related decisions that can impact their progress to graduation. The next Executive Director will bring a commitment to implementing collegiate health models aligned with higher education priorities for student success. ABOUT THE DIVISION OF STUDENT AFFAIRS PRIORITIES:Three priorities guide our work in the Division of Student Affairs. Foremost, we maintain a commitment to quality which is rooted in the belief that LSU students deserve our best effort. Every interaction we have with students should communicate care, relevance, polish, and attention to detail. We work to ensure every space, place, and staff-to-student interaction communicates a sense of home to students. Finally, we design programs, services, events, and experiences with everyone in mind.RESPONSIBILITIES:Leadership & Administration 30%Provides internal leadership and strategic oversight for a large, multifaceted organization including the primary and specialty medical care, mental health services, sexual health and GYN services, wellness and health promotion, interpersonal violence prevention and support and administrative operations functions. Coordinates and communicates with state and local government agencies, local health care facilities, and national peers.External Relations 25%Serves as a/the primary representative/liaison of the department to external stakeholders, including managing and setting the strategic direction of the medical clinic and mental health services in partnership with OLOL Sets the expectations for how the department will interact and engage with departments across campus. Responsible for setting and leveraging external relations in order to advance the goals of the department and ensure student success and student health outcomes are aligned.Strategic Resource Oversight 20%Steward resources (human, financial, physical, etc.) to ensure quality, effectiveness, efficiency, relevance, and alignment with divisional and institutional objectives. Directs budget planning and resource allocation to strategically achieve goals of the SHC and partnership with OLOL. Sets parameters and expectations of delegated decision making for staff.Quality Control 20%Ensures quality in every aspect of the position including administrative guidance for humanresources, searches and hiring processes, and building compliance and maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state and local laws and regulations, including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Oversees the development and management of protocols, policies, procedures, and instruments for the effective internal management of reporting requirements. Works with Senior Associate Director for Operations to structure continuous improvement efforts.Other Duties as Assigned 5%Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Vice President for Student Health and Wellbeing. This includes but is not limited to: efforts that support broad division/institution efforts including at least 40 hours per year spent helping divisional initiatives such as Move-In Day, Welcome Week, Family Weekend, Career Expo, Disability Services Finals Testing, other special projects etc.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's degree and 8 years of health administration or related experience OR Bachelor's degree with 10 years of health administration or related experience.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's degree
  • 10 years of related experience and/or within a university setting.
  • Previous leadership within a college student health setting.
