Position Details:Summary of Duties:The Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery (DBHR) Washington State University Advanced Prevention Fellowship is a unique opportunity to participate in state government work and engage with Washington community coalitions' efforts towards substance use disorder (SUD) prevention and mental health (MH) promotion. The Advanced Prevention Fellow will be hired and managed by Washington State University (WSU), and their daily duties will be co-managed in conjunction with the Washington State Health Care Authority (HCA) Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery (DBHR) Prevention Section. The fellowship will start as soon as application screening/hiring is complete, and will end September 29, 2025.Fellows will learn and disseminate information about evidence-based prevention programs supported by prevention science research, in collaboration with WSU researchers, DBHR Prevention Section staff, and WA community members. The Fellow will work closely with DBHR staff on special projects assigned based on candidate expertise and project need, from critical areas in the prevention field related to research and evaluation including Evidence-Based Programs (EBP), surveillance efforts, prevention science training to aid community strategic planning work, and evidence-based practices within school-based services.Within these areas, Fellows may work on several diverse projects related to EBPs, training and technical assistance for community providers and prevention professionals statewide, young adult prevention, prevention data and evaluation, and school-based prevention services. Examples of fellows' work might include the development of prevention best practices documentation; coordination of workgroups; supporting review of evidence-based programs; coordinating program nominations and summaries of successful local EBP implementation efforts; developing training curriculum and hosting trainings; and coordinating / providing technical assistance to communities that are working towards wellness through SUD prevention and MH promotion.
Required Qualifications:- A Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. human development; psychology; social work; public health; sociology; etc.) and three (3) years of related experience in the program specialty. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

- Proficient in MS Office products including Word, Outlook, and Excel.
Preferred Qualifications:- For this position, a Master's degree with three (3) years related experience is preferred.
- Knowledge of social science research methods and study designs (survey, experimental, case studies).
- Knowledge of survey design and other forms of construct measurement in the social sciences.
- Experience with social science data analysis (qualitative, quantitative, mixed method).
- Skills and/or experience in providing training to culturally diverse audiences on prevention and health promotion topics.
- Demonstrated experience evaluating community projects, and experience in preparing educational materials for low literacy and diverse populations.
- Experience working with racial/ethnic and other historically minoritized communities.
- Experience in contract management, communications, and social marketing practices.
- Experience working or interning at a state, county or local level government agency.
- Ability to design effective work processes to fulfill program/community goals and objectives.
- Ability to find and interpret research related to community coalition building and substance use prevention
- Ability to find community-level data and present data clearly to community members.
- Ability to help community members identify and interpret data and train them to use data to conduct their own needs assessments.
- Has, or wishes to acquire, CPP certification.

Monthly Salary: $4,508.70 - $6,763.06In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.
