Job Summary

Perform custodial work required for the routine cleaning and upkeep of buildings. All University staff will engage and contribute to a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion within the university.

Duties & Responsibilities

* Clean and dust furniture, fixtures, windows, doors, trim, and related furnishings.

* Move furniture, supplies, and miscellaneous equipment as directed.

* Clean and service lavatories, toilet rooms, and restrooms.

* Remove trash and recyclable materials from buildings.

* Wash and/or clean window and door glass.

* Mop, sweep and scrub floors and other surfaces as assigned by management.

* Perform all related building service duties assigned by management.

Additional Physical Demands

Ability to tolerate exposure to temperature extremes and work under a variety of conditions. (Some buildings are not air conditioned in which summer cleaning will occur. Therefore, in some spaces temperature may be warmer than usual.)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

* Ability to read and follow written instructions, directions, labeling and measurements.

* Ability to complete tasks in a timely manner.

Rate of Pay:

The rate of pay for Extra Help - Building Service Worker positions start at $18.40/hr per hour and increases based on level of work. The rate of pay is determined by the job description submitted by the department.

Work Schedule:

We offer short or long-term assignments up to 900 hours, which is about 6-months of full-time work. Employees can work either full or partial days and full or partial weeks.

Extra Help Positions:

Extra Help employees are appointed to fulfill casual or emergent needs within units. The amount of time for which services are needed is not usually predictable and payment for work performed is on an hourly basis and based on actual hours worked. Extra Help employees do not receive holiday pay or paid sick or vacation leave.

Extra Help employees are required by State Universities Civil Service System rules to take a 30-calendar-day break after working 900 hours. At the end of the 30 days, you may begin another 900-hour employment cycle in a new position if available. Working Extra Help will in no way affect any other employment opportunities with the University of Illinois, including your position on and Civil Service register.
