Job Description :

The Extraction Manager position directs the work of others and assists in the extraction lab where the company produces marijuana concentrates. The lab is a multi-faceted environment, and the Extraction Manager handles a multitude of tasks including engaging with and directing the operation of extraction equipment, production of marijuana concentrates, manages troubleshooting tasks via engagement with a CMMS, schedules and organizes the extraction team, directs, and engages in Research and Development.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Carries out routine tasks accurately and strictly following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Follows and ensures strict safety procedures and safety checks.
  • Directs and assists the Extraction team in the performance of all extraction related duties. This will include checking the quality of the Technician's work to ensure that minimum standards are maintained.
  • Coordinates with other departments and schedules extraction runs and product refinement to meet the needs of those departments.
  • Coordinates with site leadership to ensure that production Demand Plan is adhered to.
  • Details extraction parameters, interpreting extraction data, and adjusting parameters, as necessary.
  • Maintains rigorous logs, detailing extraction parameters, results, equipment and laboratory maintenance, and cleaning tasks, among other things. Checks logs to ensure that these tasks are being performed, and their results recorded, by the Extraction team.
  • Identifies areas for Research and Development, formulate a plan of approach, and communicates any potential projects to Management. If an R&D project is approved, coordinates with Extraction team to conduct necessary research and experimentation.
  • Creates and implements a Cleaning Schedule, ensuring that equipment, tools, and workspaces maintain a high level of cleanliness.
  • Ensures that the laboratory is well-stocked and resourced by regularly inventorying equipment and tools, and placing orders, as necessary.
  • Maintains equipment by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calls for repairs when needed.
  • Engages with Fiix, a Computerized Machine Maintenance System (CMMS) in order to track and manage system maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Coordinates with other departments to source support in maintaining and troubleshooting issues with lab equipment.
  • Keeps up to date with technical developments within the industry, especially those which can save time and improve reliability.
  • Engages in process improvement within the Extraction Lab and coordinating with superiors to implement improvements.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications, engaging in industry events, etc.
  • Coordinates with local Compliance team to ensure that applicable laws regarding the compliant creation and handling of marijuana products, as laid out by the Compliance team and the AHJ (Authority having Jurisdiction), are adhered to.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be able to obtain a state medical marijuana badge and pass a background check.
  • Must be able to communicate with team members, at all levels, effectively and professionally.
  • Must have strong organizational and leadership skills.
  • Ability to use standard office equipment, computer equipment and software including word processing, database management (Metrc, BioTrack, etc.) spreadsheet applications and electronic mail.
  • Be able to resolve problems by examining and evaluating data and selecting corrective steps.
  • Must have strong communication skills with the ability to express ideas clearly and concisely in written and verbal formats.
  • Should have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, employees, and management.
  • Must be able to approach conflict or disagreement constructively and mediate in conflict as needed.
  • Must be able to understand and work within the strict confines of the laws set forth by the state with regards to its legal medical marijuana program.
  • Should have, or be capable of achieving, a solid understanding of personnel and safety laws, and how to ensure their implementation within their workspace.
  • Understanding of the variety of tasks required in working in a lab or manufacturing setting.
  • Ability to work independently, manage projects and meet deadlines.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in a regulated industry, with a related skill set.
  • Minimum of 4 years experience in a management role.

Education Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree or can substitute experience for degree.
  • 2 4 years' experience in a laboratory or product manufacturing setting.
  • 4 years supervisory experience managing others; taking ownership of the quality and consistency of work produced by the team.
