JOB SCOPE: The Extruder Operator is responsible for producing pet food kibble according to precise specifications and managing product changeovers with minimal downtime. Other key duties include performing routine maintenance on equipment, troubleshooting quality issues, and ensuring consistent production standards. This role requires attention to detail, technical proficiency, and the ability to maintain high efficiency in a fast-paced environment.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is primarily performed indoors near operating equipment, loud noises, and loose particles. Work performed requires employees to operate in high temperatures. Employees are required to wear a bump cap, hearing protection, safety shoes/boots, and safety glasses at all times.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Operate extruders and perform routine adjustments and changeovers in minimal time.
- Responsible for determining and regulating feed, fat, and water rates.
- Perform routine maintenance on the machinery and troubleshoot minor operating issues.
- Differentiate product die plates and demonstrate capability to set up die plates and knife drive assemblies and disassembles for cleaning.
- Perform quality checks for product specifications including bulk density, piece size uniformity, moisture content, and nutrient content. As well as monitor the preconditioner temperature requirement.
- Responsible for changing screens in regrind mill, sharpening knives, and managing waste tubs.
- Understand and comply with all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), GMP's, and HACCP.
- Working overtime is MANDATORY and requires full participation.
- Keep work area clean and maintain assigned portion of master sanitation schedule.
- Report all safety violations and hazards to the supervisor immediately and participate in all safety programs and procedures. Must always wear required PPE.
- Other duties and responsibilities as required or assigned by the supervisor to be accepted with a positive and professional attitude.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must hold a valid driver's license.
- Successful completion of pre-employment screening (drug screen, background check, and physical.)
- Must be able to work in high temperatures and at an efficient pace.
Must successfully pass a pre-employment background and drug screening.
