Overview Parts Processor Requires the skills necessary to operate all or some of the typical minor metal shop machines within the safety guidelines. Use machines such as drill presses for drilling and tapping, grinders, sanders, shear, hydraulic press, cold saw, band saw and make the proper setups for each of the machines and processes required. Use a variety of manual and power hand tools. Must be capable of selecting the proper materials designated on the job card or by alternative instruction. Have the knowhow of calculating best material yields. Able to interpret blueprint drawings, sketches, job cards and follow verbal instruction. Capable of using measuring tape, calipers, square and bevel square and layout tools when necessary. All job steps require the following of instruction on the job card in the proper order and the maintaining of part counts at each step documented on the job card or other documentation. Knowing the lockout procedures for each of the machines they operate. Operator's Duties and Responsibilities Specific tasks will vary by machine, but many responsibilities are common among virtually all machines and hand tools. The following to be some of the general duties any operator should expect and be responsible for. Production All the part processes have a predetermined quota as in setup time and process time that an operator is expected to perform each task within. Completion of your task means the next stage of the process can progress as scheduled. Operators need to enter data of counts at each step of the processing. This must be their own count and not assuming the person's processing previous to them counted correctly. They are also responsible for locating the output to a staging area common to the product and the next stage of the production process. Maintenance Production requires machines to constantly perform at optimal levels, so operators need to follow a regular upkeep. Any problems must be reported to your supervisor or the maintenance department immediately. Quality Control Operators must be devoted to quality control by inspecting (visually and/or with precision tools) the pieces or products they produce. Problems need to be brought to management's attention immediately. In long runs, spot checks are necessary to assure nothing has shifted or changed in any way for the required end results of that process. Safety Safety is a requirement of the operator. They need to abide by workplace and governmental guidelines to reduce the chance of injury to themselves and others. This may involve checking that machine is working properly, wearing proper safety gear and maintaining a clean area. Training Others Seasoned operators may be tasked with getting new hires up to speed. Since so many who enter this workforce do not have prior training on the company's particular machine. Operators need to be able to explain things thoroughly and monitor progress carefully. Employment Type: Full Time Salary: $17 - $21 Hourly Bonus/Commission: No
