Fabrication Technician

QUALA is seeking a skilled and hands-on Fabrication Technician to join our prototyping team. This role involves executing precise prototyping tasks, solving design challenges, and bringing concepts to life in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will combine problem-solving expertise with craftsmanship using a variety of tools and technologies.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop creative solutions and troubleshoot design, fabrication, and assembly issues
• Fabricate and assemble parts using manual tools including mills, lathes, table saws, water jets, laser cutters, band saws, drill press, etc.
• Operate manual shop tools (mills, lathes, drill presses, saws) and work with sheet metal
• Create, modify, and interpret 3D CAD models (SolidWorks, Creo)
• Maintain tools and machines, ensuring calibration and adherence to safety standards
• Operate desktop-scale 3d printers

Qualifications:

• 3+ years' experience in hands-on model making / fabrication
• Strong understanding of manufacturing and prototyping processes
• Proficient in CAD software (SolidWorks, Creo)
• Skilled in operating manual tools and machinery including manual lathes, manual mills, water jets, laser cutters, band saws, table saws
• 3D printing experience - setting up and running a variety of printers
• Small and large part sheet metal fabrication
• Creative problem-solver with attention to detail and the ability to adapt to evolving project needs
• Experience creating 3D forms and designs from planar materials
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills
• Experience leading or working in an educational shop, lab, or maker space

Preferred Experience:

• Familiarity with CNC machining
• BA or BFA in Industrial Design
