Facilities Engineer

This engineer with be responsible for day to day operations, maintenance, engineering and capital projects for approximately 900,000 square feet, across four buildings. Our facilities support manufacturing, R&D, Customer Technical Training & Support, IT and Administration. The facility systems we maintain are varied, customized and unique to meet the demand of manufacturing and R&D. These include HVAC systems providing controlled environments, chillers, cooling towers, boilers, refrigeration, industrial vacuum, purified water and automated building control systems. The Responsibilities

  • Supports daily facility operations, ensuring site is meeting the needs of a variety of departments including R&D, production, administration, customer technical support and IT.
  • Work with the site lead technician to resolve daily technical issues, evaluating required service or repairs and investigating issues that may impact production.
  • Individual will identify, prioritize and manage needed capital projects within the facility.
  • Through a team approach, will work with other engineers, technicians and mechanics on capital projects including building remodeling and construction, equipment installation, safety and environmental compliance, mechanical systems maintenance, and energy efficiency.
  • Must have the ability to maintain focus, make appropriate decisions and execute plans in the face of frequent requests for help and resources.
  • Will work with a variety of facilities equipment including building controls, fire protection systems, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), refrigeration, dehumidification, compressed air, purified water, industrial vacuum systems, plumbing and lighting.
  • Ensures building and grounds are properly maintained.
  • Maintains positive working relationships with all support vendors.
  • May analyze preventative maintenance repair histories to improve efficiencies & cost.
  • Support continuing energy efficiency improvements and cost reduction efforts.
  • Drives all safety, environmental, and energy management systems. Ensures site is maintained and prepared for Fire Marshall, Insurance, Quality, Environmental and Regulatory Inspections.

The Individual

  • Though facilities experience is not required, a strong desire to work within facilities is required.
  • Must be prepared to work within a facility that requires 7/24 support.
  • Must be organized and have good documentation skills to operate in a regulated environment.
  • Good project organization and management skills.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be versatile and willing to learn all aspects of facilities operations, equipment, systems, maintenance and services.
  • Ability to handle both daily requests and manage capital projects.
  • Individual should be customer driven, results oriented, and have a sense of urgency.
  • Experience leading maintenance and construction teams is a plus.
  • Ability to manage multiple activities, demands and urgent responses throughout the day to maintain uptime and production.
  • Keep in close communication to internal departments. Able to plan, communicate and implement projects or recovery efforts, ensuring the needs of internal departments and uptime are met.
  • This position will be based in Rochester, NY.
