Job Summary: The City of South Fulton seeks a highly skilled and motivated Facilities Project Engineer specializing in Mechanical and Plumbing systems. The successful candidate will play a vital role in the planning, designing, and overseeing mechanical and plumbing systems within city facilities. This position ensures that all systems are efficient, reliable, and compliant with applicable codes and regulations. The Facilities Project Engineer will collaborate with various stakeholders to deliver high-quality projects that meet the city's standards for safety and performance.Key Responsibilities:
  • Project Management: Lead and manage mechanical and plumbing projects from conception through completion, including planning, design, budgeting, scheduling, and implementation.
  • Design and Engineering: Develop detailed engineering plans and specifications for mechanical and plumbing systems. Ensure designs meet city, state, and federal codes and standards.
  • Construction Oversight: Oversee construction activities, ensuring contractors adhere to design specifications, codes, and city standards. Conduct regular site inspections and manage quality control processes.
  • Maintenance Coordination: Collaborate with maintenance teams to develop and implement preventative maintenance programs for mechanical and plumbing systems. Provide technical support and troubleshooting as needed.
  • Budgeting and Cost Control: Prepare project budgets, monitor expenditures, and manage project costs to ensure projects are completed within budget.
  • Compliance and Safety: Ensure all projects comply with local, state, and federal regulations and promote a culture of safety on all project sites.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Serve as the primary point of contact for project-related communication with stakeholders, including city officials, contractors, consultants, and the public.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate project documentation, including plans, specifications, reports, and records. Prepare and present project updates and status reports to city leadership.
  • Innovation and Sustainability: Identify and implement innovative and sustainable solutions to improve the efficiency and performance of mechanical and plumbing systems.
Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Plumbing Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical and plumbing engineering, focusing on facilities and project management.
  • Licenses/Certifications: A Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred. LEED certification is a plus.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in engineering design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit) and project management software (e.g., MS Project).
  • Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of mechanical and plumbing systems, building codes, and regulatory requirements.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Problem-solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
  • Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead and manage multiple projects simultaneously, focusing on quality and efficiency.
Work Environment: The position involves both office and fieldwork. The Facilities Project Engineer will frequently visit construction sites, which may require exposure to varying weather conditions and the physical demands of inspecting mechanical and plumbing installations.
