About This Role:
A Facilities Maintenance Technician in an educational setting plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation and upkeep of the institution's facilities. This position involves performing routine inspections and maintenance of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and other building systems to ensure they are functioning efficiently and safely. The technician is responsible for diagnosing and repairing issues, implementing preventive maintenance schedules, and responding promptly to emergency maintenance requests. Adherence to safety regulations and protocols is crucial to maintaining a safe environment for students and staff. Additionally, the technician must maintain detailed records of all maintenance activities and communicate effectively with other staff members. This role requires a combination of technical skills, problem-solving abilities, physical stamina, and a commitment to maintaining a functional and comfortable environment for everyone in the educational institution.
What You'll Do - Position Responsibilities:
* Conduct routine inspections of electrical, plumbing, and other building systems to ensure they are functioning properly.
* Implement and follow preventive maintenance schedules to avoid equipment breakdowns and extend the life of the building systems.
* Diagnose and repair issues with building infrastructure, including minor carpentry, painting, and general repairs.
* Respond promptly to emergency maintenance requests and perform necessary repairs.
* Ensure all maintenance activities comply with OSHA standards and other safety regulations.
* Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, inspections, and repairs.
* Operate and maintain tools and equipment for maintenance tasks.
* Monitor and manage energy usage to ensure efficient operation of building systems.
* Coordinate with external contractors and vendors for specialized repairs.
* Train other maintenance staff as needed.
Key Competencies:
* Familiarity with OSHA standards and other safety regulations.
* Proficiency in using tools and equipment for maintenance and repairs.
* Ability to diagnose and fix issues efficiently.
* Good verbal and written communication skills to interact with staff and document work.
Physical Requirements:
* Prolonged periods of standing and walking
* Climbing ladders and stairs
* Ability to reach overhead and work in awkward positions.
* Good hand and eye coordination
Job Conditions:
You will work both indoors and outdoors, often in different weather conditions. You can also be exposed to loud noises from machinery equipment.

Minimum Qualifications
* High school diploma or equivalent.
* Completion of an apprenticeship program in trades such as HVAC or plumbing.
* 1 to 2 years of experience gained through technical or vocational training.
* 1 to 2 years of experience working in preventive maintenance.
