Salary: $3,179.00 Monthly Location : San Antonio, TX Job Type: Full-time Regular Job Number: 2024-00860 Department: Facilities Management Opening Date: 01/03/2024 Closing Date: Continuous Summary Under direct supervision, is responsible for routine repairs and maintenance of building equipment, machinery, and facility grounds of assigned County facilities, to include detention facilities; and performs other duties as required. The position of Facilities Maintenance Technician I is the first position of the Bexar County Facilities Maintenance Technician family of jobs. The family of jobs is organized in a career path that extends from Facilities Maintenance Technician I (NE-04) to Facilities Maintenance Technician IV (NE-10). Advancement through the career path is contingent upon achieving increasing levels of skill, experience, education, certification and performance. Duties and Responsibilities
  • Troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains building equipment and machinery
  • Performs basic plumbing troubleshooting tasks including plumbing fixture repairs, parts replacements, and fixture removal and/or installation
  • Assists in construction, remodeling and renovation work
  • Performs basic carpentry, concrete and masonry repairs
  • Repairs commercial laundry and kitchen fixtures and appliances
  • Performs replacement and/or repairs of acoustical or metal ceiling tile, vinyl floor tile and ceramic floor tile
  • Records readings taken from gauges on machinery and equipment; and documents and reports discrepancies of readings
  • Performs building inspections and maintains proper documentation as required
  • Observes and reports security problems to proper authorities
  • Assists in the performance of basic locksmith functions including troubleshooting, repairing and preventive maintenance on detention facility sliding door locking systems
  • Perform other maintenance duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
  • Graduation from High School or General Education Development (GED) certificate, and two (2) years' experience in commercial building equipment repairs and maintenance; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Basic knowledge of commercial building equipment repairs and maintenance including plumbing, carpentry, and mechanical fundamentals; good knowledge of all related tools and equipment; good knowledge of safety standards and practices
  • Skill in operating all related tools and equipment
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Texas driver's license
  • Ability to perform a variety of maintenance functions; ability to read and follow instructions; ability to calculate time and material estimates; ability to performs basic measurement and mathematical calculations; ability to exercise independent judgment when necessary; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, County employees and outside agencies
  • Must be able and willing to attend training at department's discretion
  • May be assigned to any or various County facilities
  • Must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance
  • Must clear a pre-employment physical and a pre-employment drug screen test
  • Required to be on-call 24/7/365.
  • When required, shall work extra hours, holidays, weekends and other shifts
  • Required to work rotating shift
  • May be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweek
Working Environment and Physical Demands:
  • Working conditions are primarily indoors with exposure to temperature variations
  • May be required to work in a detention environment
  • Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions
  • Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as damp/wet surfaces, extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
  • Frequently moves equipment weighing up to 25 pounds
  • Occasionally moves objects weighing up to 100 pounds
  • Will frequently communicate with co-workers; must be able to exchange accurate information
  • Frequently moves about buildings
  • Constantly positions self to perform essential functions
  • Constantly operates tools and equipment
