Title: Facility Maintenance Worker I

Reports to: Facility Maintenance Manager

Department: Facility Maintenance

Location: 5350 Machado Road and in the field

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Compensation: $21 - $23 /hr.

Program Hours: Monday Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm or 7:30 am to 4:00 pm

Supervisory Responsibility: None

Position Summary

Provide maintenance and upkeep of the organization's facilities as assigned. Duties include but are not limited to painting, janitorial work, plumbing, and electrical repairs, as well as other general maintenance tasks.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Ensure safe operation of all tools and the use of personal protective equipment, including but not limited to safety goggles, appropriate footwear, back support, vinyl gloves when performing janitorial work, etc.

Ensure work tools/supplies are appropriately maintained and safely stored after each job/task at the end of the work shift. Familiarize self with the location of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) at each ECF facility; report job hazards and other safety concerns to the immediate supervisor or the Chief Administrative Officer if the supervisor is absent.

Organize and plan each days work tasks, assemble and transport all required tools and protective equipment to the days worksite.

Paint interior and exterior of facilities as needed, ensuring all materials are appropriately stored after use at all times.

Using lockout/tag out procedures, replace faulty electrical outlets, ballasts, bulbs, etc. as required. Perform preventative maintenance such as cleaning gutters; HVAC, check for water leaks and bubbles on roof, etc.

Perform general maintenance tasks such as: installation of bulletin boards and shelves, hanging pictures, moving furniture and equipment, light carpentry, etc. Set up meeting rooms when requested. When working at the Kayne Eras Center, perform general janitorial duties such as ensuring bathrooms are clean and fully stocked, mop spills, clean toileting accidents, toilet overflows, etc., throughout the workday and determine if repairs are needed.

Inventory, order and maintain general and janitorial supplies. Purchase, pick up and deliver items and perform various other errands as assigned.

Attend safety and other training, including bloodborne pathogens, First Aid and CPR, meetings as assigned.

Other Duties

Comply with ECFs Injury and Illness Prevention Program. Ensure safe use and operation of tools and/or equipment.

Comply with ECF policies and procedures, including mandated reporting requirements.

Regular, reliable attendance.

Notify janitorial crew of special cleaning needs as directed.

Conduct water and electrical energy conservation audits

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education/Licenses/Certifications: High School degree or equivalent

Experience: Seven years in facility maintenance, including the use of hand tools with basic understanding of building materials, painting, mechanical and electrical systems (lock-out/tag-out procedures), basic plumbing and general janitorial work (cleaning products, SDS), and grounds maintenance (playgrounds, gates, etc.).

Knowledge/Abilities/Skills:

Familiarity with lockout/tagout and SDS.

Basic math skills.

Knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Internet, and e-mail.

Ability to work independently.

Excellent time management skills and have the ability to track daily/monthly tasks and manage workflow to maximize productivity.

Interact with others in a tactful and diplomatic manner.

Exercise good judgment and have problem solving skills.

Ability to safely drive 15 ft. box passenger van.

Requirements

Valid California drivers license, reliable transportation, evidence of car insurance, and insurable driving record.

Pass a DOJ background investigation.

Provide evidence of a negative TB test initially and every three years thereafter.

Pass a pre-employment physical.

Obtain NCI, First Aid and CPR certification within three months of employment and maintain as needed.

Work Environment

The general work environment varies and is not confined to a specific setting. Work will be performed indoors and out, temperature will vary depending on specific job assignment. Will spend 20% of time traveling to other facilities in own vehicle or ECF van. Office work will consist of using computer to place supply orders, documenting records of repairs and orders performed/completed. May be exposed to chemicals such as paint, paint solvents, cleaning solvents, etc. Appropriate safety gear, such as safety goggles, gloves, etc., is provided and must be worn at all times when dealing with all chemicals.

Frequently required to bend, squat, crouch, reach, crawl, and push and pull objects.

Hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone.

Regularly lift and/or move up to 40 lbs. using proper lifting procedures. Use a dolly, pushcart, pallet jack, etc. to push, pull, lift, or otherwise move up to 50 lbs.

Good hand/eye coordination required to accomplish tasks.

Use a latter to climb up to two stories.

Regularly required to travel to various sites within Los Angeles County.

Ability to implement NCI, First Aid, and CPR.
